'Additionally an automatic suspension feature has been added to ensure that excessive questions and answers by a user in a given period of time will be removed from the site until moderated.'

Can you explain this in more detail please, Ed.  For instance how many questions and answers are we allowed in what period of time.

Getting worried Fp?
Also, will we be notified we are 'suspended' and 'unsuspended'? Or will the Q's and A's just disappear?

The ratio of posts/ time is being finetuned: a couple of legitimate users have seen their posts disappear this morning (they're now back.)

It affects all posts from the moment the suspension kicks in -- i.e. previous posts remain on the site.

Does this apply to all users then?  You refer to legitimate users.  I still don't fully understand, Ed.
'Legitimate' as opposed to spammers. It applies to everyone: too many posts at once, and you will be suspended pending moderation.

So am I to understand that users like Andy Hughes, Pinotage or even myself who have been posting here for years and have had very littl ein the way of hassles will also be moderated if we should choose to post "too many" question - whatever too many may mean as you have failed to indicate any limits.

I don't know if this will shed any light on it.

This seems all very vague.  Wouldn't it have been better to have worked it out and let us know all the facts and figures before actually putting it into practice. Have I yet reached my weekly quota?
Yes Fp you must now go & sit in the corner till we tell you it's ok to speak again. (I'll probably be joining you soon).

Perhaps we could have a special section for suspended people to meet up, Noddy!

Thanks for that Wraith. It makes the whole thing clearer... well sort of !

All we really need to know is the 'Quota' now!

sft42 - yes, even you could find yourself suspended if you post more times than the automated suspension programme allows. Said programme is being reviewed and we hope to get it right as quickly as possible. This will hopefully deter people from posting, for example, multiple quiz questions one after another. Spam, also. The programme is not sophisticated enough to recognise you.
All - we don't necessarily want to publicise the quota, because part of the reason for needing this system is to counter spammers and the 'hackers' who occasionally attack the site.
Sorry to be so thick but what are spammers and hackers.  I think I've been suspended for too many postings in the past - am I a spammer or hacker 'cos I certainly don't mean to do anything wrong (apart from the occasional chat.)
spammers use robots to send out emails, usually advertising Viagra or porn, to millions of email addresses at a time. Hackers break into websites and, for instance, steal subscribers' names. You're neither, netibiza. If you're a chatter, that's a much lower degree of villainy, no worse than the average mass murderer.

Sorry to be repetitive, but here goes:

Also, as you may appreciate web based communication, especially as demonstrated on this site, is dynamic (in more ways than one!) and we are constantly reviewing protocol within reason. Issues raised in this category may not appear to be resolved as quickly as you can refresh a web page, but they are always considered and we aim to answer your queries as quickly as possible.
