Cat scratching

Our Siamese cat is pretty good at not attacking the furniture etc, but he consistently scratches at the stair carpet.

I have bought a spray on cat repellent for the carpet, but this has been useless. He also has a scratch post at the top of the stairs.

Any suggestions please for methods of stopping him!

Apparently, double sided sticky tape put on the area can stop them. Never done it as seems a bit cr*p to have sticky carpet/sofa. You could try putting catnip on the scratching post or spraying the cat with water when it starts to scratch? The last one will take a while to work, but eventually will - although your cat may just choose somewhere else!
