Any one else watching this?

I have a pedigree dog and a mongrel, but even 5 minutes in and I'm in tears already!

Nothing necessarily about them being pedigree, just the clips they have shown of some of the dogs.

Hey lofty,

It has done me in all ready.
For some reason I didnt expect the kind of clips that have been shown, not sure why.
I was in tears watching it, that poor poor boxer Zac.
I cannot watch it wiggal, I would never sleep tonight.Don't sleep much as it is and that would definatley do it.I know it's good that they show these things, but just too upsetting for me.g.
Yes I watching it. I've always described the Kennel Club as a money making administration machine.

Send us an application form and 25 per puppy and we will give you a certificate. And the stupid system of how your dogs can't be KC registered unless your parents are, and so on, so of course it brings on genetic diseases.

Even though KC fans see to be completely in denial and see it as a slight on themselves.

Rosetta, it was the 2nd Cavaier that has got to me most so far.

But can not believe what I am hearing about the Ridgebacks and puppies.
I will never have a pedigree dog, ever again.
Hopefully others will have see this programme and say the same as you Rosetta. Whilst people are willing to pay , these dreadful things will carry on.

(I can only imagine what you are witnessing on this programme - I'm really glad I stayed away from the TV)

I was just thinking the same about rosettas comment lofty, and maybe this programme will show people that Pedigree may not be the way to go, and more dogs and puppies from rehoming centres will find new homes.
I don't know why anyone would want a 'designer' dog anyway. I don't care what a dog looks like, what breed it is (or is not!) or whether it is perfectly shaped - What I want (and want everybody else to want as well) is a healthy, happy dog who is loved and who loves back.

I have had lots of rescued dogs and they have lived long and healthy lives.
Well, when I say lots, I actually mean 5 in the last 30 years (and two dogs at a time)!!

The first dog we got was a Samoyed, and yes he is pedigree. Always wanted a sammy, and I'm yet to see one in a rescue centre!

Since then we have Cleo who we have had 6 months, and is meant to be a cavalier x American cocker spaniel, yet she definitely has some terrier in her, and although we were looking for a spaniel, my girl is the best pup and wouldnt change her for the world!

Have you managed to stop her digging, getting under the fence and going next door yet Wiggal ;o)?

I have had the most weird selection of dogs, but I do have a Yorkshire Terrier at the moment who is the only pure breed dog we have ever had. He was rescued by us when he was six, hairless and a quivering snarling wreck!

This is he with our other little dog (of mixed parentage)!!

It breaks my heart when I think of the dogs (and other pets) who are abused, or sadly neglected.

Well, what can you say?
I agreed with the Pennsylvanian vet that there has to be legislation, how can you get voluntary agrrment where there is so much denial.
I have always though showing dogs was worst than beauty parades. Those poor dogs my sister in laws cavalier has just had to have both knee joints replaced. We have a lab that looks nothing like those at cruft cos she is from working strain she is long legged and very lean her father is DNA tested for genetic illnesses. She is amazingly fit and intelligent but wouldn't win any prizes in the show ring
They are not even attractive eg that peke and the beagle

Lofty, what a gorgeous pic!

Your other dog, looks just like our cleo! exactly the same colour, but yours has a slightly shorter coat and the nose is a slightly different shape! Other then that, you have my puppy!!

We have had no more escapes lol! But she is a monster. she is very much in charge of poor Ashke who very quietly does what she says, or yaps at him!

She is very tiny Wiggal. Only about 12" to her shoulder and only weighs 7Kilos. She was the runt of a litter. She is all terrier though!!
Question Author
YvonneM, I completely agree with your first line there.
After all, a person in a show can choose what they look like, a dog can not help being bred with problems that may cause it so much pain and problems.
No wonder Cleo's a good digger then if she has terrier in her.
