Many ABers recent comments refer to 'unhappiness' with this Site ...
- The last Ed had her ways .... the Ed before that had very different ways .....

Whatever the site Rules are ....do you see it as sensible editorial practice to apply such Rules?

'Have Your Say?
Instead of 'jumping on bandwagons' could this not be atuned to the AB Site and to ABers?

Hi prospector - Rules are rules & it's up to the Ed & team to ensure the site runs as smoothly as posssible - but I'm sure they'll also be open to suggestions on how to make it run even smoother!

I've received an email from the new Ed & she seems very nice - I always take as I find.

It's early days yet, so let's give her a chance to get established & get used to us lot too!
hi smudge -

The site has not run smoothly recently - evidenced by the many related postings of Aggravation / Frustration / Irritation?

Of course 'they' are open to suggestions - that is why I made a posting - the Ed's introduction Blog states -
and of course taking on board your AB suggestions

{Just hope that this isn't only words ... similar words came from the previous Ed at the start of her short reign! }

I also note zimzam comment below about cliques who 'try to run' this site - and, have private chat threads running, often in old threads....

It is my stated point (and, I see that you endorse / repeat it) that it is up to the Ed to ensure that the site runs smoothly - the only suggestion that I make is .... IF YOU MAKE RULES; then APPLY THEM ..... otherwise you look silly and you confuse those that you make the Rules for!
Question Author
thanks for the postings smudge and pantheon - I've seen similar from you both before.

I fail to see relevance smudge - so let's give her a chance Is anyone suggesting that an Ed should not have a chance? Who are ABers to give Ed a chance or not ... would think its for Crystal Guides etc ?

It seems to me that Pantheon has stated reasonably - Whatever the Rules are .... appply them or you undermine yourself ie your credibility suffers?

Thanks to both of you for your Input ... my question was directed to the Ed .... maybe it is more appropriate to email.
Oh, I'm terribly sorry prospector.

P'raps you or someone else would like to report my answer as irrelevant - I'm sure there's a button for it.

Pantheon - 4th Para - Re: zimzam. If you are referring to the 'Biddy' chats often running through old threads - then whoever is disgruntled should email the 'new' AB Ed direct with their comments.

Besides who do these chats really affect? Do people go looking for them? If so, they must lead very boring lives!

I agree, there are some threads that go off on a tangent & are full of drivel, but as I say, only the Ed can deal with these.

Basically, all I was trying to say was:

"Give the new AB Ed a chance to settle in & see what happens from there"!

prospector- we all know rules are made for a reason, but surely there's room here for bit of give and take?

The only way to please you is for them to be so rigid they are cast in stone?

I personally dislike the threads started just for the hell of it, but I don't see anything wrong if a post goes off on a tangent between friends (as long as the person asking the orginal question joins in/doesn't mind)

Fully agree with smudge 'ere, lets give the the new Ed a chance before we start pointing the finger at her and saying she's doing a crap job, when all's said and done I bet it's not an easy job role!
Well you cant please all the people all the time so you might as well just please yourself.

Of course we will all be unhappy with some of the rules, especially if they are applied to us as we would see it as a personal infringement of our assumed right to be on this website. We have the freedom to come and go and where we dont like the rules we can either complain, or like it and lump it or disappear into the aether.

I am all for rule-bending for the greater good, and often contribute to jokey threads. But sometimes we should expect the rug to be pulled in order to keep us all in line and to let us know that we are being monitored and there is some semblance of order amongst the chaos. We should also expect opposing views as well as affirmation. Anyone who cannot accept either really shouldnt participate.

And in reference to the Biddy comment above, I suspect it is those Biddies who go looking for those threads or create them, so you are probably quite correct in your assumption.

Octavious - with reference to your last para, I quote Pantheon:

"I also note zimzam's comments below about cliques who 'try to run' this site - and, have private chat threads running, often in old threads".

Firstly, I for one, am not part of any clique on AB & don't wish to be. I do not have the time or inclination!

Secondly, if I receive an email from another AB'er leading me an 'old' thread, then I will/may participate to a point, then leave when I feel I've outstayed my welcome.

Back to the real world!

So to reiterate my point above, did you take that as a personal affront?

If so, then you must be part of a clique.
Back from the 'real' world!

No, Octavious I did not take it as a personal affront - I took it as a general snipe against people who 'do' belong to 'cliques' as zimzam so kindly put it.

If the AB Ed allows/permits people to have cosy corners, then I can't see why it should bother anyone who doesn't have the time or inclination to participate in them on a 'regular' basis, including myself!

Hope that clarifies things for you.

But smudge......everyone likes you so much that you are a part of all the 'cliques'

'cliques' .........What 'cliques' ?????

It all comes down to each individual person, the advice they give, the comments they make and their sense of humour....smudge is part of that....as are you Octavius..
Indeed, my clique is the Answerbank Community of which I partake and contribute, I cant see from above where I was contradicting or denying that. Smudge, to use the word snipe against means that you take umbrage to my post. Other less indigenous ABers might have used the words opinion of.

I wasnt denying the existence of cosy corners as you put it, and if the Ed allows these to remain then so be it, but I am entitled to an opinion arent I? Anyway, this digresses to the point of tedium.

My point was that we should be aware of the rules, and if they are applied to us as an individual for an infringement then we should blame ourselves not the AB Editor.
Back home again....

Please do not try to underestimate my intelligence.

You know very well what zimzam was referring to - meaning cliques 'within' the AnswerBank - not the whole site being one big clique - it's there for all to see!

That's all I have to say on the matter, except I do hope the AB Ed settles in nicely.
I dont join in any discussions normally, but I can't see any point in this because if your'e a Biddy like me and enjoy the chat then why anybody who doesn't agree with it just doesn't keep away and start a thread of your own or join in another topic and leave us to it. I'm just a simlpe person who has a life and just likes to chat now and again, where's the harm in that!
Thank you Jude, that's exactly what I was trying to put over to the 'sticklers'.

Oh & thanks too BOO.
