Hi, I had a blood test on Thursday morning as I have been feeling a bit run down, mouth ulcers etc. I was told that I should call the Doctors back in 10-14 days for the results. However it's Saturday morning and I have a letter asking me to call my Doctor to book a routine telephone consultation to discuss my recent blood test results. Obviously now not open until Monday and I'm a little anxious. Why would they write to me when I was told to call them? And how come it is so quick?!

Hopefully, If it was that urgent, the hospital would be asking you to come in immediately.
Don't know.
Perhaps the Dr would like to discuss them with you in person.
Results back in 2 days is no like the UK.
I am afraid you will need to wait and see.
sometimes, just sometimes, the system works quickly.
The doc may want to put your mind at rest that nothing showed up.
As above funky, there's something, but nothing too bad that will wait till the Monday to discuss. If it were, you'd have been seen as urgent. Try not to worry x
FBC and biochemistry usually come back within a day, or even couple of hours if marked urgent. Other tests, such as vitamin D, chromogranins, etc can take much longer.

Your GP may have received a result that warrants further investigation but if it was something really urgent, you'd have been asked to make a proper appointment with your GP.

Try not to worry.

Thanks all. I am in the UK which is why I am surprised it is so quick. I'm a 35 year old otherwise healthy guy (yes, just realised I have had this account for 15 years now!). They took four vials of blood. As I say really surprised not only at the speed but also the change in how I am to obtain results. It's a bit worrying!
I have regular blood tests and they are usually back in two days. Try not to worry,

One of the tests was a routine HIV test. Surely if this has come back positive then they wouldn't want a 'routine telephone consultation', would they?!
FL.... no. If HIV serology had come back positive, they wouldn't break it to you over the phone.
My surgery always says results in 7 days. Without fail I can look on line the day after the test and view the results with a GPs comments.

Don't worry, they are being efficient if it was urgent you would have had a telephone call, or at least that is how my surgery operates.
