Yes she has been on Asprin for a couple of weeks but the hospital have said change to this drug, it is blood thinning.
She has also been prescribed a statin, Astorvastatin. My concern with this is, that her cholesterol has always been 4.2 so I don't know why she has been prescribed a statin. Will this make her cholesterol go too low.?
I would assume that your mother's stroke is due to a clot from an irregularity of the heart...atrial fibrillation.
Aspirin is not the drug of choice in this situation but Eliquis is as it acts in a different manner.
The statin is a matter of personal medical opinion.
I forgot about your cholesterol question.
Statins may well lower her cholesterol even further, but the present thinking, certainly with Cardiologists is that the present levels of normality for individuals with NO underlying disorders is fine, but in patients who have established heart disease, blood pressure or history of strokes, then they need to have a much lower level of total cholesterol.
What happened was, she was sitting watching tv when her leg went dead and hard, she tried to get up but she fell to the floor. The paramedics said it looked like a blood clot in her leg, though after a CT scan and ultra scan they could not find where the clot was.
