Hi all, just wondering if any of you out there had any similar experiences, I am 16 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I still haven't got even the slightest bit of a bump, is this normal? I've had scans and they've been fine but still no bump... :-(

Hi there ~ congratulations on your pregnancy :o)

I remember feeling a bit upset when my bump hadn't appeared with my first baby. I was still in my normal clothes up until around 21 weeks ~ then all of a sudden the bump shot out and carried on growing!

This doesn't always happen though. Everyone is different..some show earlier than others and you may find that even though you get a bump, it may not get that big.

If it's any consolation, I was in maternity clothes from 13 weeks with my second baby ;o)
if your dates are correct and scans are normal best not to worry and make the most of your flat tummy, your bump will appear quite soon , this is not uncommon in first pregnancies, especially if you are thin, be well. but if really concerned have a talk to your midwife
don't worry hectic, quite normal - when it appears you'll know about it ! i didn't start showing til about 20 weeks .
good luck with the pregnancy x
loads of women dont show until the middle of their pregnancy or later, some never have a bump to show and some get a bump from as early as 6 weeks.
All pregnancies are different and youll probably find that those that show early wish they didnt as everyone asks things like 'ooh not long now' when your 6 months pregnant onwards (very annoying)
As long as scans are ok then things are progressing well. Just be proud of the fact that you obviously have good strong tummy muscles :)
as far as me i dont think its strange at all, women show early some show late,i didnt get a bump till i was nearly 7mths,if the scans are all fine dont worry, they would tell you if there was anything wrong
Congratulations!

Well I was the same until I was about 6 months gone and I just ballooned! Also I didn't have any stretchmarks until about a week before I was due. Honestly! I thought I had got away with it so I was gutted.
Same here, JOEY!!
Lucky you ... It is perfectly normal, hopefully you will only show in the last couple of months. Your baby will take available space first... Do you have wide hips? Used to be called child bearing hips for a very good reason.... Enjoy looking slim in pregnancy and I hope you and baby stay well and happy
x
congratulations hectic, i was the opposite and was showing within the first 10weeks with both of mine, only slightly with the first but more so with my second. However, i work with a girl who was still wearing her jeans that she had always worn 2 days before she gave birth! I had to see a photo to believe it!!! lol We are all different and im sure you're bump will appear soon and then they'll probably be no stopping it ands it gets bigger and bigger until you think your skin can stretch no more! :-)
A woman at my work was 5 and a half months pregnant before anyone noticed her bump.. she is really petite though.. she is about a size 6 but doesn't look skinny, she is just small. But her bump to ages to show but her baby was healthy as anything, so I wouldn't worry hun. It will show all in good time.
hi hectic and congratulations

I never had a bump at all when I was having my daughter, the day before I had her I could still fit in age 11/12 year old clothes....but.....when I was having my son 6 years later I was huge at 3 months. so long as the scans etc are fine I wouldnt worry about it :)
hmm I better just say that I wasnt actually 11/12 years old when I was having my daughter lol
lol @ pixi, now i know why you have that username ;-)
Lucy you I'd say. I ballooned straight away and still haven't got rid of my big tum - 15 years after delivery!!!
hectic, I had a friend many years ago who was a stunning young woman, very trim figure, married for 9 years to a lovely man and they had tried for all that time to become pregnant. They both came from large families. Both had important jobs and it seemed to others that all was just perfect in their lives. But they were desperately sad when told by three doctors that she would never have children with him as he had an extremely low sperm count.
I was working with her a few months later, translating at an international exhibition in Frankfurt, when she suddenly fell ill and within minutes was writhing on the floor in pain. I phoned her husband and an ambulance and we all headed for the hospital where, much to everyone's astonishment and I might say huge delight, my friend gave birth to a little girl weighing just over 4 pounds. She had no idea she was pregnant as her tummy never showed any bulge, nor did she ever feel sick. She had always had irregular and very mild periods, so had not suspected she was pregnant, especially having been told so many times that her husband could not give her a baby. That baby is now in her 30s and still the pride and joy of her parents. So, keep in touch with your doctor and your midwife and don't worry too much if you don't have a bulge yet. Have a lovely pregnancy! Congratulations and best wishes :o)
Don't worry the time will come and then you'll wish you had a flat tummy again! I was still wearing size 10 at 5 months xxx
