I have bought one of those bun doughnut things but I don't want a super sleek ballet bun, I'd like to have a looser curly bun maybe with the curls pinned around the edge of the bun, to make it pretty enough for a wedding. I have naturally curly hair but sadly no artistic talents at all - can anyone explain in simple steps how I would do this please or link to an easy video? I've tried Googling but can't find what I'm after so hopefully someone can help! Thanks.

whenever I wanted to check out how to do a hairstyle I trot off to youtube...hope that helps
Do you have to use the doughnut? There are hundreds of 'messy bun' videos on Youtube that don't use one.
YouTube have loads. I have long, thick, curly hair (well, I did until Friday!)and I use a hair donut but I hate the scaped-back look! I just backcomb my hair within an inch of it's life and that seems to be the key. Obviously that means my curls have been straightened out, but I tease a few strands of hair out and curl them using my straighteners. It's difficult to describe how to do it but YouTube certainly helped me. It might take a wee while to search though!
Not really my scene but I agree with the Youtube thing, first place I go for anything these days, you learn so much more and far more quickly, especially for me being Dyslexic, its a great help.
I do mine like that, but just use a scrunchy.

tongue the hair first into tight curls and set them with hairspray.
gently put the hair into a tight high pony tail, pull the pony tail apart so it is nice and tight.
then start pinning all around the scrunchy so you can't see it. You can either do a high bun or more of a back bun (can't remember what they are called).
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't think of YouTube but wouldn't they have come up on the Google search?

I do need the doughnut because although my hair is curly its quite thin so I need to doughnut for volume. I wasn't planning on taking any tongs or straighteners with me as the wedding is abroad - will I be able to do it without 'tools' do you think?

Thanks all
Go to YouTube and type in "curly hair bun donut" and you will get loads of videos you can look at. You can do it without straighteners and tongs but describing how to do it is difficult! lol
I just found myself on youtube searching for "curly hair bun donut" Why do I do these things!!?

note to self: dont do it, especially for hair styling techniques!!
