There is an oil in it that cats react to and it releases happy hormones but does not affect the cat's brain in the same way marijuana does in people.

It is not addictive and cats can become tolerant to it and stop reacting in the same way

Frankie raided the hidden supply of organic catnip.  He burst open the bag and stuffed his face in the catnip.

He ended up giving himself an asthma attack and costing me over £100 at the vet.

I grew catnip in the garden once, had to pot it up and bring it into the house,  every kitty in the neighbourhood was in my garden waiting for their turn.  It was grazed to the ground in less than an hour.... Then when they all woke up from it they started fighting.....

If you can't handle your catnip, or drink, you should leave it alone.
