I have two drives on my new PC: a DVD drive and a CDR drive. I want to disconnect the cdr drive so I can upgrade the firmware on the dvd drive. To disconnect the drive do you just pull the cables out of the back of the cdr drive or is there more?

Aswell as disconnecting all the cables from the drive, you must also remember to remove it from the bios settings so as it doesn't keep thinking it's there.
If your bios is on autodetect ide devices then you won't have to remove it. And of course always be careful when in the bios, don't change anything unless you know what it does.
