Can a store (QD) legally refuse a refund when a customer takes an unsuitable item back?

If it is merely unsuitable to you but there is otherwise nothing wrong with it, then there is no reason why they HAVE to accept it back.
what do you mean by unsuitable? if you requested a certain item and what you wanted it to do and they sold you it saying it would do it then yes, you can request a refund as it was missold.

If you bought the item without checking and found it wasnt suitable then the store has no obligation to refund or even exchange
My son bought a game on Sunday. Played it Sunday night...decided he didn't like it so took it back to the shop on his way home from school today.

They asked what the problem was so he told them he didn't like it....they gave him a full refund. I was surprised at that.
ummm, that is the store policy, not a legal entitlement.
Yeah I know. I didn't even know he was taking it back. He's so shy I was actually proud of him for trying it. He came home with 5 cd's and got told off for being late...!!
stores will take an item back if it is unsuitable (i.e. clothing, unwanted present etc) depends on the item, and what store... what was the item?

How is that ummm can comment on her experience, be corrected by someone else, then a third person butts in to suggest yet again that the store will take an unsuitable item back. No, it doesn't have to.

You are entitled to a refund,legally,if you take it back within the year and get a refund if there is a problem with it ( unfit for purpose) and you do not have to have a replacement,repair or credit voucher. Look up consumer rights and get all the details. Believe me, I have had to look into this and shop assistants are not trained in this law (or they are and they are told to act ignorant).If you just changed your mind about something then it is a different matter and will be up to the shop and some like Marks are better than others.
..... however if there is nothing wrong with it ............ then, that's a different story.

If the item was sold to you defective, or not fit for purpose as described by the shop/salesman then you are entititled to a reasonablke replacement. If a replacement is not available, or not suitable for other reasons (eg multiple returns on item, size not available) then a refund will be given.

If the item was bought then you changed your mind, realised the description you gave was wrong, decided you couldn't afford it the the store is under no obligation to do anything.

Some places will let you get refunds on noddy reasons, but that is store policy NOT LAW!!
A year ganesh?? That would depend on what the item is
Would you expect a pair of shoes,. for example, to last a year?
