Edge Of Darkness (2010)

10:07 Wed 30th Jun 2010 |

Edge Of Darkness is a dark crime thriller. This is a film adaptation of the 1985 BBC television series of the same name. The film stars Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone. The director Martin Campbell also directed the original TV series and so brings with him the same thrilling drama of the 1980’s show.

Unlike most revenge thrillers where the protagonist uses brawn and guns to get his revenge, in this film Mel Gibson has to use his intellect to get out of most of the situations. Not only is the film a great thriller, but it has a very powerful performance from Mel Gibson, and by the end of the film you will be emotionally involved; most revenge films don't have a heart like this one.

This movie has a little of Taken, with a whole lot of Enemy of the State, and just a touch of Jason Bourne.

The plot centres on Gibson’s character, Thomas Craven, who is a homicide detective for the Boston Police Department and family man. When his estranged, politically active daughter is shot he begins his own investigation. As a police officer he has access to skills and resources we civilians don't.
