Legally Blonde is a comedy drama film. It is based on the novel of the same name by Amanda Brown and was directed by Robert Luketic. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson, Selma Blair and Matthew Davis, the film has generated a sequel, spin off DVD and a Broadway musical.
The film was a huge box office hit and both critics and audiences loved it. The originality of the idea of a college graduate taking on the legal world and winning was a new one and so this gave the film a freshness which was mirrored in the innocence and naivety of Witherspoon’s character.
Viewers immediately found the heroine endearing and even though she was a bit on the ditzy side she was obviously extremely bright and this offset the, at time, over saccharine sweetness. Her support cast was very strong particularly the love interest who some say is the better of the two Wilson brothers.
In an effort to win back her college boyfriend the homecoming queen works to be accepted to Harvard to do a law degree, much to everyone’s amazement she is admitted and shows what she is truly made of. However, our heroine discovers that all is not quite right in the hallowed halls and so she has to decide whether to buckle under the pressure or let her brilliance shine.
