Hi everyone, we've had a series of Golfs for a few years now. We stupidly sold our three years old TDi Golf three years ago (only had 24k on the clock) and bought a Golf Match tsi l.6 petrol engined car which we've had for over three years. It's a good reliable car but doesn't set the world on fire. We're looking to change shortly and I'm not sure whether we can afford a new car these days. So should we buy another Golf, maybe a year or two old and if so what model do you all recommend. Are pre reg cars a good buy or a con?

But I'm wondering whether to ring the changes and try another Maker. Any recommendations? We'd probably spend between £12k and £15k and will sell our car privately probably.

Someone suggested looking at the Audi hatch. Any thoughts?

You'd need to tell us more about your requirements, what you use the car for, how many people in it regularly?
Why not try a Seat Leon - Golf mechanics - Seat body. I test drove a Leon 1.6tdi Ecomotive and really enjoyed the experience - although that particular model wouldn't set your heart racing but there are more powerful versions - I reckon you could get a 2 year old for what you are willing to spend. I'm not particularly keen on Audi's - again the A3 is a Golf with an expensive Audi badge. I am also told that the Hyundai i30 is a decent motor but i've never tried that.

Sorry boxtops, I should have mentioned. There are just the two of us. No kids. Just usual day to day use. We work from home, hence our mileage tends to be low.
Ford Focus?
Alfa 147
^ Alfa seltzer :-p
OH has had 5 Toyotas' wouldn't ever change. She does about 6000 miles pa, and gets cracking deals. Never had any kind of mechanical problem, but I'm sure Golfs don't either.
Smart Cabriolet :-)
Kia C'eed is good value and competant
It's fixed up now then Sara .. and you want to sell it!!!?
A TDi Golf would be a good bet.
AlBags, it's not back yet.. still being repaired.

but bizzylizzy can have it for £12-15k. I know she will love it as much as I do :o)
bizzy - sell your car privately - if you are looking at new car or second hand - would go audi or Saab
Skoda Octavia automatic (DSG type). A VW in all but badge. But much cheaper.
