If you cant afford insurance then you cant afford a car. Thats a pretty easy calculation, i take it youre not studying accountancy or anything involving sums.
As has been said, points and a fine. with any luck loss of your licence may prevent you driving.
Insurance is to cover those around you, not just to pay for damage to your own car.

But it won't be the end of the story, if his insurance Comapany is telling you they are going to report you, you can bet your ass that they will, they're not likely to say "well if you promise not to do it again".
Insurance was too expensive? Try taking the bus like other people who can't afford (or don't want to) drive.
How would you feel if after you've graduated and driving and spending your hard earned money on insurance and someone rammed you sending YOUR premium up? I'll bet you'll not be best pleased about that.

My sister in law is a student, works, runs a car (Insured, taxed and MOT'ed), and pays rent
You have no excuse for not having insurance, driving without insurance is a criminal offence.
I hope you receive a hefty fine and lose your licence. What would your excuse be if the accident had been your fault and you'd hurt someone? even (God forbid) killed them? could you live with yourself?

logic how do you know its a guy? And what are we sposed to do say oh thats ok you'll just get a telling off but as long as you're sorry now. Yes everyone makes mistakes but cant say I;ve broken the law, and most people make mistakes because they have forgotten but they have openely admitted they couldnt afford it, so as redcrx says cant afford insurance shouldnt drive a car
