About time too.Ron.

New fines for letting car insurance lapse
Warning! Vehicles must ALWAYS be insured unless kept 'off-road'

car insurance rulesThe new Continuous Insurance Enforcement says from spring (exact date TBC) all cars, bikes & motor homes must be insured - even if no-one drives 'em. Beware of yours lapsing while on hols or in hospital.

The only way out is to apply for a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) declaring it's not in use.

The aim's to crack down on 2m uninsured drivers bymatching a database of cars to insured drivers. If there's no match, it'll warn people, then fine 'em (see car insurance rules).

From a MoneySaving perspective, this means search for the new cheapest BEFORE renewal, or you'll end up auto-renewing to stop a fine.

hasn't it always been you have to insure your car unless it's off the road?
I thought so...
Yes , if its off the road say on your driveway it must either be insured or sorn , new rules
the government will not make it compulsory to make insurance company's issue an insurance disc like a tax disc then traffic wardens could report cars for not being insured etc .these are compulsory in some eu counties why not ours
also if your not insured you cant tax your car either as there checked for that and a current motif you do apply for car tax
Some people don't insure a car and leave it on the drive.
Then someone who has insurance to drive any car , can then drive the car.
This will put a block on that.
