I think the'yve got a few good songs - but the variety isn't there...

I think they'll fizzle out soon!

I agree, every song seems the same. Starts out all slow and moany and then gets slightly lighter but still dull at the end.
I didnt like Coldplay much before their last album but i have gotta say X&Y is the best album i have heard for a long time, it has changed my opinion of them greatly.
Some of their stuff is excellent. Like 'Clocks' or that new one 'Talk' I think. I think Snappy has it just about right, but I can see them being around for a while.
they're the biggest band in the world of course they'll stick around! they're original and Craig007 is right X&Y was an amazin album. coldplay 4ever

We've had this thread before.

Yeah liked X&Y too.

They're a good band not as great as some claim.

They're certainly not depressing.

I liked Clocks and Fix You but that's about it. On the whole, I don't find them depressing, just insipid and samey.
They are OK but I wont be going out of my way to see what they are doing next

They are a bunch of tree-hugging bedsit-dwelling trendy left wing sob whinging lentil steamers!

But don't let me put you off ....

Good to have you back Andy. Not really a fan then?
Really liked Rush of Blood to the head. X&Y is good too. Parachutes... ok.

Don't like them though. Bit namby pamby for my liking.
Well They are A bit of both, I don't think They'll fizzle this Year at least

Thanks CT - how could you tell?

I was actually due to interview their drummer for the drum magazine I write for, but their Press Officer sniffily told me that it "...won't be possible this time ..." which doesn't break my heart - apart from the loss of the fee of course.

It's custom as an interview finishes for the musician to invite the writer to stay for the show. If I really don;t like the band, I make a polite excuse about having to be elsewhere for another interview, but I don't think I;d be able to stop myself saying "Actually, I'd rather stick a knife and fork in my genitals that listen to five minutes of your band's dreadful whining pseudo-emotional (he's off again!) violence-inducing aural pap!"

Of course, I wouldn't - I just don;t like Coldplay - doesn't mean they are in any way bad, they just don't do it for me.

I still want to get The Black Eyed Peas thoguh - Fergie does it for me in a BIG WAY!!!!!

Coldplay are great. But yeh, i do admit that they do sound depressing at times. I found that I need to be in a certain "mood" to listen to their music. And I don't mean being in a depressing mood to listen to them ! I find they are much better than most brit bands these days (that includes Oasis - sorry Oasis fans).
The Dire Straits of our time. Smug, complacent, unimaginative and unoriginal music for the masses.

A similar question was debated on here recently. Take a look at their album, download and ticket sales worldwide for your answer.

That many millions of people can't be wrong.

Millions of people can't be wrong??? No offence, but that's ridiculous! The Sun sells more copies than any other paper - does that make it good? Don't confuse popularity/populism with quality.

And it's not a question of being right or wrong, it's one of discernment.

So the millions who buy westcrap records are right then philtaz..they are absolutely fantastic!!!

Question Author

The point they sell millions of records is not relevant. The question was is, the music depressing... I think if you listen to it then it is hard to say isn't. It is hardly uplifting or makes you wanna dance around and be happy. Basically they have made a load of money out of making people miserable.... :(

Depends if you like that sort of thing though doesn't it. I don't mind this sort of stuff but it's not my favourite music. I've been told that some of the stuff I listen to is depressing. I don't. I'd stick it on any time for a lift. Just depends how you interpret it. Other people love it, and enjoy it. Personal prefence really.
