If I remember correctly Tony Blair said there would be a Referendum on Europe, Where is it ?

Do you think that we need to be part of Europe and all its red tape and policies ?

Did you know about this protest http://www.proreferendumrally.co.uk/index.html ?

He said there would be a referendum on the EU Constitution, but that never happen so no need for referendum.
the French and Dutch held referendums and rejected the constitution, so it was dropped before any more referendums could be held. A much weaker proposal for reorganising the EU has been put forward and some people would like a referendum on that instead; but it's not the one Blair was talking about.
This talk of referendums on the treaty are disingenuous. How can you vote on a whole package, some of the things you disagree with and others quite acceptable. Separate policies should be voted on such as the case for more countries joining the EU or curtailing immigration, etc. but otherwise don't destroy the whole package.
Dooes anyone actuall know whats in the new package, other than whats been in the media?.
Thanks delboy,

It would appear, as people have been saying, that its as close as dammit to the Constitution, but because its got another name, no need for a referendum.

Semantics.
Don't believe in a referendum

There are a 145 pages in the draft treaty. Exactly how many of the people who vote in a referendum will (a) actually have read it and (b) actually understand both the referendum and its implications.
Well labour lie - oops, sorry, spin Bin doin it for 10 yrs are you really surprised?
vic, I hope you are not taking the New labour attitude that we are too thick to understand and make a choice.

Or are you an orchestrator of the nanny state?
well youngmafbog, I can honestly say that I have not read the links on the BBC page with regards the draft treaty, let alone the protocols or declarations. Have you?

If there was a referendum tomorrow how would people vote? I bet most people already know (without having read the treaty). Quite a few people would vote according to the paper that they have read (do you think any of them have a bias?)

So that means that in a referendum, the vote will be swung by the proprietors of newspapers. Personally, I don't want Rupert Murdoch (an Australian national) dictating any more rules in this country.
