Much better by England - but still plenty of room for improvement - last minute goal by USA means its probably Germany next - and if we win on penalities (?) then Argentina !
And didn’t John Terry play well.
What did you think of it today, and moving forward ?
Agreed od.
For the first time in this competition,we played as a team.
I believe Steven Gerrard was the outstanding player.
If we can go forward, now we have regained our self belief, then I do,nt think there is a team we should fear.
It's weird, we don't really want the Germans next, so, we hope Ghana win the group. BUT, that means we would play the team, who, beat Germany........think about it.
Prudie - USA got 310million population to choose from time and "Soccer" is now played widely in the USA at the youth and amateur levels. Seems to be improving all the time
"John Terry. Ashley Cole and Glenn Johnson all played really well Stevie G does like wearing red....doesn't he... Roo is still not right though...." spot on Rowanwitch !
True VHG - but would you bet against the Germans - theyve got a far superior goal difference already over serbia and were unlucky not to have beaten the Serbs including ( beleive it or not) missing a penalty ! No African nation has yet qualified and i dont see Germany not beating Ghana - which would put Germany top of the group barring a big score by Serbia vs Australia ! Germany in 18 World Cups have only once failed to get through to the next round - i believe in 1938 ?
One word 'Pressure' Its what we thrive on. When havent we seen England walk through the group stages? How many times have we seen England turned over in friendlies by lesser teams?
The only pressure we cant handle are penalty shoot-outs. If Capello has any nous as a manager he'd have them banging balls in from the spot in practise.
Snafu, we'll have plenty of pressure in the next round against an energetic young German side who move very well on and off the ball - and use all available space and switch quickly between areas of the pitch. We will really have to raise our game and spirit some more - and have more than our usual amount of luck to come through against our traditional nemesis and pray it doesnt go to penalties.
Rooney seems off the pace at the moment - not 100% match fit and carrying some degree of injury. Capello has built our attack force around Rooney in a 4-4-2 system.
What changes,if any, should Capello make for our Germany encounter - especially taking into account that Rooney is less than 100% ?
The only thing Capello needs do for the Germany game is to make sure that the hotel bill's paid up, and everyone of the squad has his passport and plane ticket ready for the flight to Heathrow next Monday.
