Washer Dryer and High Water Bill!

Ok here is my problem. I have lived in my house for 7 years and when I brought the house I brought everything new, including my washer dryer. Anyway, since I have lived there my water bill has rose every year and I now pay £90 a month for my water. I got in touch with the company who said I use enough water for a family of 10, (there's just 3 of us). They said there might be a leak so keep an eye on the readings etc. So last week I wrote down the reading on the meter before I went to work and I made sure that there was no water running and nothing was turned on. When I came home the reading was the same. Then I put a few bits in the dryer and noticed the water meter went up for the whole time the dryer was on. I've got a feeling this might be the cause of my high water bill but why. Why would a drying cycle (even on a washer/dryer) use water? If it is a fault with the machine, what should i do? Any help appreciated please.

Prize for heathfield - I never knew (or even suspected) that - great answer
Yes. The drying cycle in a condenser dryer (one that isn't vented) uses a lot of water. Which? says that they can be a poor choice for people on a water-meter!
its only condenser WASHER DRYERS that use water in the drying cycle. my separate condenser dryer is not connected to the water supply and doesn't use water at all.
Yes, woof, the answer was for the OP - a washer-dryer.

Thanks for your answers. So basically the jist of it is I should just not use the dryer on my washer dryer. I do use it a lot and it must be the cause of my high water bill. I wish I'd known this 7 years ago. Maybe in a years time I will have a nice low water bill again.
I Know gingelbee but other folk read the threads.
really think think you need to work out the cost per unit then calculate exactly how much has been used before you jump to conclusions, just because the meter is registering a flow of water it doesnt mean its mega amounts..
I live in a 4 bed with 2 x toilet/bathrooms, dishwasher & washine machine which are on most days and my standing charge is £26.00 per month (anglia water)
