Is there any way to tell if a bidder, when there are only 2 people bidding on an itemm is purposefully pushing the bids up and is possibly working with the seller? nah bet there's not is there? Just me being over suspicious but this has happened twice now, I put my max bid in when it gets to nearly the closeing time, and someone comes in and starts placing bids pushing the price up and seems to stop when they have reached my maximum

No. It undoubtedly happens though...
Ethel explained how to recognise this, wish I could find the explanation.
why not only put your max possible bid in when theres just a few seconds left? that way they cant push price up and youll never pay more than youre willing to
Are you still not using a snipe facility dotty?
Dot, do what I do. 15 secs before end of auction put in your max bid. There is not time for them to keep counter bidding.

a few weeks ago I bid 1.99p for something and it was1.99p for 4 days, then in the last 5 seconds someone outbid me! I emailed the seller to ask how that had happened and he replied that he had no idea and did not know who had won it!

I never get it right it's annoying me, this one is now up to my max £20 bid from a £9.99 starting price with an hour to go, i should have waited but noone had put any bids in all week,
Because that person more than likely used a snipe facility, which we told you about at the time!

Basically, its a site which you state your maximum bid on, and it will place a bid up to that amount in the closing seconds dotty. Nothing underhand in it at all- just the smarter way to bid on stuff.
Yup, this happens I am sure. I tend to bid my max and sometimes I win, sometimes I don't... the only hitch would be if a dummy bidder won it, they would still have to pay for it, eBay would get suspicious if too many sales got cancelled and then the seller has to offer to the second chance bidder (who would be you).
PS yes I agree with B00 too, there are tools bidders can use to bid right up to the very last moment, which I am equally sure is how I have lost out on some items!

so the person can put a snipe bid in but it doesn't show up at all on the bidding screen or even at the end even? the last time there was nothing at all to say i was outbid until the screen went to the closed auction, i had thought i;'d won it. I'm not going to bid any higher on this one though, if it is someone who genuinely wants it they'll pay £21 quid, if i win it at £20 i;ll be happy as that is what i would go to,
Boo, can you explain this snipe to me please.
No Dot there is no way of telling unless you email ebay and ask them to look into things for you. it could be just coincidence though as people put in their highest bids right at the end ,you could have a look at the feed back they have gave and received to see if there are a few with the same names.hope you get what you are looking for Dot
Most bids come in right at the end, that's the norm. The rest of the time is just there to make it known the item's for sale. You're lucky if you are the only interested party. It is possible that you and another both place much the same max value on the item.
Caslass...I use this site...https://www.justsnipe.com/auctions/sig

Basically, you register on it, then anything you want to bid on you place a maximum bid which you'll go to in it and it the final 5 seconds it will place that bid for you- you're almost guranteed to win the item using something like this.

Well that link worked well!
Thanks Boo I'll take a look.
I have won lots putting my highest bid in in the last 15 secs. In fact I never bid on anything I have my eye on until the last seconds.
The beauty of the site i suggested lottie (hi by the way) Is that you dont even need to watch it, it does it all on its lonesome ;-)

And no, im not on commission for them, lol.
