We came close to extinction in 1962 but common sense prevailed.Over the past fifty years, common sense has been replaced by health & safety and seeing as how I am no longer healthy or feel safe I wish to change my vote to yes.:o)

As with so many big questions, the answer is "it depends". But as things are, the great majority of the human race is due for disaster of one kind or another, sooner or later. The first and probably worst disaster will be repeated famine, the second will be wars over water and possibly oil. Famine will occur because increasingly hot dry climates will support less and less agriculture. Sea level will rise, leaving smaller areas for people to live in, and to grow food crops. Edible fish will become extinct.
The very small remainder of the human race which survives these disasters will number a few million, and will have to adjust to poorer food and a very much lower birthrate, and a very small area of land to live on.

In which timeframe do we consider the Human race to be 'around? The Homo genus has been around for over 2million years, so yes, we are on the way out. If this Q only pertains to modern Men that spans about 200,000 years it would probably still be YES.

That's good oldnitro. It describes us perfectly in a few words. We are our own future and, like you, I can't see it getting better. The people voting yes have a very optimistic view, which I suppose is nice for them. Personally, I won't worry too much because I shall not be here.

Well, yes, NOX because most people are voting No so they all have a rosy view of the future of the human race. It is only realists that are voting Yes.

I think the whole question is a bit moot tbh Star because we simply can't know. We might all get nuked tomorrow or hit by a huge chunk of whizzing space rock in 300 years time, or everyone might wake up to the fact that we're not very nice to the planet and we might prevail for thousands of years yet- nobody can know so why the doom mongering?

Depends on whether its a sprint or a marathon... we might be halfway through the100 metres but barely left the start of a distance race... can we have a better definition of the race we are using as race in terms of a collection of identifiable beings isn't really timeable...
