This was the topic of conversation last night and it's kinda freaked me out a bit; My friend says "The Orion Prophecy says that the world will end in 2012". "Its magnetic field will completely reverse in one go. Earthquakes and tidal waves will destroy our civilization. The whole earth's population will perish in the apocalyptic events" I find this to be really scary! Has anyone else heard of this or is it a load of rubbish (he has this thing about winding me up). Do you think it could actually happen?

I asked this question on another site and they say it's not true but I'm still not convinced!

It's not that it's worrying me (liar) I just wanted to know if anyone else had heard of this particular tale and could it actually happen?
and theres always the aliens who can take over after we've gone :-)
i think when this world blows up it will be down to mankind. No, ive not heard about it, until now lol thanks for that, now im worried ;-)
I spose it could happen but if it happens it happens, same as me getting run over tomorrow could happen.
The author of the prophecy (book launch) claims to have cracked several star codes which are over ten thousand years old, and discovered that the pyramids were built to warn us.

It seems anything in nature is possible (who predicted the 2004 tsunami beforehand?) - perhaps the retrograde loop will occur in regularity and arrive just in the nick of time in 2012. But the retrograde occurrences are based on ancient Mayan calendar (Haab), so one could assume that the authors are as enlightened as we are, and in all probability just as inaccurate or unsure as to when it will all end.

I wouldnt lose any sleep over it.

Thankyou Octavius : ))
I heard of this a few years back. There is a great book entitled The Biblical Flood and the Ice Epoch written by Donald Wesley Patten in 1966.
He proposes in this book that a meteor hit the earth and changed its axis. Which could lead to the world ending in 2012. This book is amazing.
There are over 200 myths or folk stories from over thirty ancient cultures that refer to a Great Year tied to the motion of the heavens.

In the history of astronomy, a great year may refer to any real or imagined cycle with astronomical or astrological significance. The Greeks sometimes called the period of time required for the naked eye planets to realign, a great year. It was an important concept in ancient Stoicism.

2012 is sometimes claimed to be a great year of spiritual transformation (or apocalypse). Many esoteric (obscure) sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar happening in 2012. Its all a bit of a cafuffle really....

I suppose the point that I spectacularly forgot to write in my last post, was that of all the 200 or so myths, theories and astrological possibilities and calculations, the author has just chosen this one as the only right one.

The heart of a man to the heart of a maid - Light of my tents, be fleet - Morning awaits at the end of the world, And the world is all at our feet.
People have been predicting the end of the world pretty much since it started. I believe 21st December 2012 is the next one then it's a giant asteroid in 2028.

There have been at least three that have past without incident while I have been alive and so wouldn't be concerned about it.
It is written in the major religions of the world. As Octavius said there are over 200 myths or stories, but only things I would say on religious perspective that God sent over 124K messengers to this world starting from Adam (pbuh) and finishing at Muhammad (pbuh). There is no nation where there was no messenger sent. All those messengers gave the message and end of the world was the part of the message. So these over 200 is from that source. I believe in what Quran says more than anything else (my faith). End of the world may sound esoteric but is imminent. No one knows when exactly it would happen, but few signs have been given which need to be fulfilled before that.

One of the major signs is the coming back of Jesus (pbuh) and that has not happened yet, then he would live in this world about 40 years before that. So on that ground 2012 does not sound right as Jesus (pbuh) is not here yet.

But I believe long before that human being would almost destroy themselves with their own hand mad progress. Just imagine how many nuclear bombs are in this world. Then there are other health disasters due to straying away from nature. That is my belief and I do not expect all people to agree with that.
