Email address receiving spam
5 Answers
Hi
I now receive 30 -50 emails a day from various named people eg. dora rhinestone, rowan threestep etc., which I believe are devised to fool your spam control. How do I try to stop them or is it an inevitable occurrence once you've had an address for a while. My ip is TIscali.
Thanks!

I have been searching for three years; it is my understanding that they have some auto-address generation system that makes them 'almost okay' so our spam filters don't block them, but places them in a quarantine file.
What I wouldn't give to have one of these sick-perverts alone in a dark room for about an hour. But of course someone would start an injuction and hundreds of police would arrive at my door to make sure the 'sicko's' human rights were maintained.
Doesn't matter how much pain the rest of us have to endure at their hands, while they try to defraud money ourtof us
Yep, you guessed it, "I don't like'm, a'tall!

You can't stop spam arriving for you on your ISP's server but you can prevent at least some of it being downloaded to your Inbox. This is the most popular free software for the job:

You can limit spam by setting up a separate mail account (with different addresses) for each online service that you subscribe to. (I'll often set up a new account just to receive mail relating to one post on AB). Then, if one account starts to get spammed, you can simply delete that account and create a new one for that service, without having to change your address for other purposes.
I use Gawab for creating new accounts (free of charge). I've used over 100 mail addresses but only 4 are currently active. For information about getting free mail accounts with Gawab, see paragraph 3, et seq, here:

Don't use the email address your ISP (like Tiscali) gave you. They're pretty much universally rubbish when it comes to spam prevention.
Instead, use Gmail.
http://www.gmail.com
(If you want to keep your Tiscali email, you can set up a Gmail address then in the settings set it to fetch your email from your Tiscali email address. Then it'll go through Gmail's spam filters.)
