Currency With The Monarchs Head

Now that The Queen has died,
1) For how much longer will currency (or stamps for that matter) with the Queens portrait remain valid?
2) How soon after a Monarchs death will new currency (Or stamps) be printed with the new Monarch's portrait

The Queen was the first UK monarch to feature on banknotes but I am sure they'll get round to designing new ones (if they're not already in waiting).

I expect the the current ones will be in circulation for a good few year yet since there's too many to replace in one go.

you know you already have to change stamps because the new ones have barcodes on? You've got till January, I think. I imagine they're busy pulping them and putting out new ones with Charles on.

I was using George VI coins for years and even George V ones. They should remain valid

I purchased a proof 2022 sovereign back in January (limited mint run) and some 3 weeks ago a proof 2022 peidfort (double thickness) sovereign.
This last coin was delivered via RM today (not all of them on strike it seems).
Anyway this coin was still available on Royal Mint web site today.
Tried to get on Royal mint web site 30 mins ago and a queue of 5,000 plus to access site.
Now no queue and the limited run piedfort sovereign now sold out.

Seems folks are grabbing last of the QEII coins knowing these will be the last.

Don't be a wally, of course they are still valid. I can remember Queen Victoria pennies etc when I was a kid. New ones will have King Charles III on them, old ones will remain valid.

The Royal Mint have a long store with barrels full of coins that are real released when required. Many of these are dated 2015 yet can be released any time.
They might melt these down?

In the late 60’s when I was 7 or 8 I remember old Penny with Victoria on them.

Banknotes. Just a reminder that paper ones will not be valid after the end of this month. Banks will swop them for the plastic ones.

Perhaps the King should suggest having banknotes without his image to avoid having to repeat the process when King Billy takes the throne?

By the way, if he follows tradition, his head on coins will face the opposite way to the Queen's.

On the few coins that were minted for Edward viii his portrait was facing left, the same as George v, as Edward defied the tradition of alternate facing portraits. George vi's portrait was also facing left because Edward was traditionally supposed to be facing right.

that was the gap - for Edward VIII and they were JUST about to release them

oh the crowns are different- alternate St Edwards and Andrew's ( crown you naughty boy)

George V - was a bit longer as he didnt like the first portrait which made him look like a croatian grand duke ( have a look)
and it was all change - or serbian terrorist
