OK, I get in the big scheme of things this is not massively important.  Unfortunately, destroying these original documents means they are lost forever.  If they are not digitised correctly, that's it, they are gone.  I love my family history and being able to look at original documents is actually very important.

I fear that this is the slippery slope to other documents being digitised and the originals being lost forever.  I do accept that there are storage issues, but just destroying them needs further thought.

I completely understand that people may disagree, but for those who would not like to see original records destroyed, there is a petition here.  If you feel able, please sign!
