Here is an article from the New Yorker which would appear to confirm much of what Hymie and Gully have been saying for ages.  Perhaps they're right. So maybe time to stop abusing and bullying them.

WARNING: This is a very very long article

So ex Guardian reporter and well known left winger berates the Tory's...over to Hugh I think:

Damn! Tories not Tory's

So you're back to your usual self. People don't treat Gully & Hymie like that for their views, it's the way they put them. They constantly rub people's noses in it and call ABers rude names and put them down --and you think they get abuse!!!

bang on prudie, Hymie and Gulliver would get a lot longer shrift if they occasionally debated their posts.

I will wait for Corby to provide the archive link 😀 as I can't read more than the first paragraph of that.

I read a lovely article by Danny Finkelstein in the Times yesterday though about the nonsense of the Tory party considering another change of leader before the election (Finkelstein himself is a Tory member of the Lords, but the sort of Tory that might persuade me to vote for them if there were enough of them left). The crux of it is: the UK has now had 5 PMs in the space of 14 years, in fact there have been 5 in the 9 years since the Tories governed alone. This is unprecedented in British political history: from 1721 to 1762 there were also 5 PMs without a change of governing party, but that's a much longer times, and includes one of them dying in office.

So the conclusion is that this embarrassing state of affairs is one of the key reasons the voters, many of them loyal Tory ones, feel it's time for a change: the thinking of many pf them delightfully summed up as follows: "It feels like we've got alcoholic parents ... You can't help but love (them) but you might want to go and live with your auntie for a bit". The voters are going to live with auntie whenever the election comes. Whether "auntie" will be up to it, we'll see.

It's not a view from across the pond.  He's British.  It's just an article that's been published across the pond.

naomi: "It's not a view from across the pond.  He's British.  It's just an article that's been published across the pond." - well anti British but yes it's a well known lefty writing in a US paper. Perhaps someone can find a real view from across the pond.

Thank you for the correction Naomi.

What a pity Answerbank doesn't include an edit facility, I could then correct my OP.

But in spite of the derailment of this thread, there's surely a lot to be said for the guy's allegations.

P.S. As a left-winger myself, I have in the past asked Gully to moderate his posts as he occasionally doesn't do himself any favours.  But I fully understand, I was young and headstrong myself at one time (-:

You can use the 'report' button to ask the editor to amend your title to something more accurate.

Its nice to see you back canary. Although I dont always agree with your opinions you are not generally rude or aggresssive or boringly repetitive.

Unlike some other abers accusations  left wing opinions are not  automatically dissed , take Mikey as the perfect example. His views were always forcefully put but respectfully debated when challenged. we need more of his like on here rather than obsessive wind up merchants.

ps can you get your avatar back?

Rosetta: "Unlike some other abers accusations  left wing opinions are not  automatically dissed , take Mikey as the perfect example. Deary, deary me. None so blind.

Really, Douglas! What on earth are you implying?

//we need more of his like on here rather than obsessive wind up merchants.//

Agreed. On both sides of the political fence.

take Mikey as the perfect example.

yeah a perfect example - no one hears from him and he's dead. perfect - has to be AB on Good Friday

but hey Gullz that is something to aspire to - - ter daah

I read a lovely article by Danny Finkelstein

as a Times reader I usually give him a miss - so important you can't email him and say he is  writing crap - always a bad sign when someone insulates himself like that.

This is 1964 all over again

even auntie seems to be like Fay Dunaway ( marmy) in Mommy Dearest,  ( coat hanger scene)

ttt 08.51 Agree with you on this one.
