After missing her for a fortnight, I got my beloved cat, Tablo, back again yesterday!

She was found about a quarter of a mile way from here by a lady who was concerned that she looked very lost and very, very skinny.  She took Tablo to the vets' surgery in Stowmarket and they contacted me to ask for some more photos to confirm that it was her.  While I was waiting for them to get back to me though, I'd seen a post on Facebook with a picture of the lost-looking cat, so I had little doubt in my mind that it was really Tablo.

She's really, really skinny (which is hardly surprising after a fortnight without food!) and her front claws have been totally worn away, presumably by scratching to get out of wherever she'd been locked in.  (The pads on her paws are very sore too). She's also got a slight limp in her left rear paw but, for a cat who's been missing for so long, she's actually in remarkably good shape.

Since I brought her home, she's been doing her best to catch up a fortnight's fine dining.  When she's not eating though, she won't let me out of her sight and is adoring all of the fuss that she's been getting.

Thanks to everyone here who posted their kind thoughts when she went missing.

Thanks, Elliemay1.

I slept well last night, with darling Tablo tucked up under the covers with me 💤

Yes, Hazlinny, last night was lovely but at other times having a cat on the bed at night doesn't always make it easy to get to sleep!

I was on the phone to my brother (he is an ABer) and told him of your missing but now found cat.

He was pleased for you and sad you were a good lad and very helpful.😁

your tiny tyrant will be very happy to home with her three boys.

^^^ Thanks, Susan (& bro!).

Wonderful news, hope she has had a stern talking to ( did try this with Campbell cat when she managed to get herself stuck in someone's house for a few days but it didn't work...went out again and straight in through someone else's open window)

So pleased Chris, its awful when your cats go missing  I know,  it's happened to me x

Isn't it unusual for a cat to walk off & get lost? strays have usually bee abondoned. Could she have been 'catnapped ' and then escaped from her captors?

Khandro,

Cats are nosey.  They will go into any building (or vehicle) with an open door.  Then the door is closed and the cat is trapped.

Khandro obviously doesn't know cats.

So curious, they'll get lost in their own home.

Like one of mine years ago...lost behind a very tall book case.

Thanks for the further posts.

Tablo's front claws were totally worn down to nothing, with her pads blistered too.  The staff at the vet's surgery said that they were almost certain that she'd got herself locked in somewhere and then had spent several days frantically trying to claw her way out.

Amazingly, she managed to get out of the place where she was trapped.  She is one lucky young lady.

Probably a good thing too that it's not summer.

Brilliant news Chris, I am so pleased to hear about Tablo that I’ve come back out of flounce land to say so.

I know what it’s like to lose a cat, as unfortunately I wasn’t so lucky with Gandalf who deserted me one day 50 years ago and was never seen again (not by me, anyway).  Poor little chap, he was still very young, and I rescued him (literally) when he was a tiny kitten. He burst out of a hedge while I was leaving a pub with some friends – mewing piteously (the cat that is) and when I picked him up he was a tiny bag of bones. The couple with me were reluctant to take him in as they had 3 cats already but I was feeling a bit merry at the time so I bundled him into their car as they gave me a lift home.

Once home I immediately opened a tin of sardines (all I had suitable) which he gladly accepted, then I went to bed leaving him the run of the house.  Ruminating overnight as to how I was going to get rid of him, I was awakened the next morning by the doorbell and it was the same couple, who came bearing a gift of much cat food, so what else could I do but adopt him.

I immediately built a cat-flap into my back door which gave him the run of the garden during the day while I was at work.

After a week or two I took him along to the vet for his jabs, the vet reckoned he was only a few months old, but very healthy, so jabbed him OK (this was before the days of chipping of course).

Gandalf gave me a lot of pleasure and amusement for a few weeks then just disappeared – I reckon he got lonely during the day (I was working long hours at the time) and found somewhere more congenial.  I only had a few (not very good) pictures of him, one of which you can see here :-  https://ibb.co/jhZfMS;

He’s obviously crossed the Rainbow Bridge years ago now, poor little chap.

Welcome back, Canary, on behalf of all those who missed you - glad you were able to unflounce 😳

Wasnt it wonderful news when dear Tablo was returned to her own home - and I'm sorry your Gandalf chose to leave after he'd been rescued, he looked gorgeous and I hope it didn't deter you from having another cat in your life - I have never been without cats in mine, at once stage I had four🐈😻😽🙀

Thanks seekerz.  After Gandalf, I didn't really thing pets were a good idea for a house empty for most of the day - in those days after work I usually was out socialiing until very late (oh to be young again) .

I gave it some thought on retiring, but decided against as I spent lots of weekends away.   It does have an appeal now I'm less active, but I still have doubts.  We'll see, maybe.

Canary, I am glad to see you have returned.

Your little Gandalf looked very sweet and innocent.  When they vanish it is heart breaking.

May I join in and be be a happy bunny too? Well, it's Easter & I had a cholostomic inspection this morning as part of an overall 'm.o.t.' I'm having, & everything is fine there 'up north'.

In fact the Doc. said I was 'inside like a young man.' I said Good, but it would be nice if all things were similar on the outside as well.

Anyone else got something to be happy about?

Thanks for your lovely post, Canary42.  (Gandalf was gorgeous!)

Somehow or other, I've got a feeling that a stray cat will turn up at your door soon and that you'll then have a new feline friend in your life.  (Indeed, I very much hope so!).  If not though, please remember that there are loads of cats hoping that someone like you will give them a new home:

I often wish a stray cat would turn up at my door as companion to Toby. Not likely as I live on the upper 2 floors ot a 4 floor building.

Keep thinking about it, Canary...an older indoor cat might be perfect. Oh...and welcome back from flounceville.
