Trevor Phillips. Sky news presenter said on Tv to Tory transport Secretary Mark Harper that "The Liberal Democrats beat you" in the local elections "No No they didn't "! replied Harper. But they did beat you Mr Harper and pushed the Cons in to third place   .My question is  does this Tory Mp live on a different planet than we do .?

I think The Rt Hon Tory MP must have had a radicalised memory blockage .

It seems rather difficult to get an up to date (or indeed any) figure for the number local councillors that are Conservative to compare with the number that are so called Liberal Democrats. So it's difficult to show who is beating whom.

Do any Abers agree that the Lib Dems knocked the Almighty Cons into a third class party. Or do they agree with The Right Honourable Tunnel visioned Tory Transport minister that they didn't...

The figures would suggest that the LIb Dems won more seats than the Tories. Maybe Mark Harper hasn't looked at the figures yet. Willing suspension of belief.

Have there been some elections? - I hadn't noticed. Nothing happened locally.

Maybe "the LibDems" beat you means they got more votes/candidates elected in the elections that happened but "no they didn't" means that the Tories still have more councillors/councils overall. So both could be right?

Dunno, Dave. Don't much care, really.

10ClarionSt @ 11.21 Thanks for the reply . I was beginning to think I had got the information  incorrect, as most fellow abers usually tell me I have.🤣

"reply . I was beginning to think I had got the information  incorrect"

You haven't provided any information: in the local elections the Lib Dems won 522 seats to the tories 515 (I haven't bothered to check what the overall figures are if different)

Percentage wise the Tories polled 25% LibDems 17%. I haven't bothered to check the figures for mayor and police commissioner elections.
So as Dave says they are both right. This of course however was an election held only in England. I'll be very surprised additionally if the LibDems end up with more seats or a higher share of the vote than the tories at the GE.

Davebro 11.29 ....."beat you means they got more votes"

Not quite right . Beat you means Beaten ,hammered , thrashed into third place,   Sort of David and Goliath style.   Get it.

in the elections that happened

According to Rishi and his band of Cons .Labour didn't win any of those hundreds of seats at the local elections What happend was a low voter turn out and people voting reform.  But it wasn't actually the Labour party that won them.  I hope the same thing happens at the General election.. Mr Sunak.🤣
