Yes..we moved into our property 7 years ago.It was banded in band H.It was very dillapidated and we felt we were paying over the odds for council tax..about £3000 per year.So we appealed and because there were no similar properties locally to compare it with they re banded us in a G.It was quite painfree however you need to prove that there are local properties similar to yours in a lower banding.Dont tell your neighbours that you are applying because it could backfire...you could stay the same and they could go up a band!!
There is a very good step by step guide and check list on Martin Lewis website Moneysavingexpert.com for Council Tax rebanding.
We moved into a new build one bed flat that was in Band C and we noticed that some of our neighbours were in bigger flats and only in Band B so we appealed. We had to demonstrate that similar properties were in lower bands, and we were rebanded into B.

Thanks for your answers. My property is the only detached bungalow at the end of a street of terraced houses so very hard to compare with neighbours or similar properties. Will have a look at the MSE site-thanks.
Let me know how you get on,gibba8 as I am in the same predicament as you.
