Ab Editor: Any Chance Of Making ‘Politics’ A Main Heading?

The whole front page in News is filled with questions from yesterday and this morning, which means many from yesterday, which people are still actively responding to, will shortly disappear on to page 2, and hence, become abandoned.

If you were to make ‘Politics’ a main heading, such questions would be split between the two. I don’t think many post questions in sub-categories because few people look at them.

Just an idea to keep the discussions flowing.

I just look in 'Latest Posts' to see what is currently being discussed, and click on any I am interested in.
I assumed that is what we all do.

Eddie, the point is that in the overly busy ‘News’ section, questions posted only on Sunday or Monday, and which are still 'current', are being very quickly relegated to page two. If, like me, others don’t scan page two, many of those discussions are coming to a halt unnecessarily. Apart from the frustration caused to anyone involved in these disappearing threads, since I understand that ‘traffic’ here brings reward to the company that runs this site, that can’t be good for business.

Just subscribe to the threads you're interested in.

Not a lot of point in subscribing if no-one is posting on the thread because it's now relegated to page 2 or 3

I subscribe to any posts I am interested in , or you can 'view your profile' to see any you have posted on or looked at .

Eddie, I know I can look in my profile and I do subscribe to the threads I'm interested in. You don't seem to have got the hang of why I've suggested that another main heading be made available.

I wouldn't worry about posts being abandoned. Whatever the subject, the same question / suggestion will pop up again shortly, in a slightly different guise.

Bazile, but most of the time we're discussing politics as well as other news in News - which is why threads don't stay on the front page for long. Too many going into just one section.

emmie, we already have a separate section for Politics, but it's a sub-category and like most of the other sub-categories it's little used. 'Out of sight, out of mind'.

It's not a bad idea, one point though - until any action is made on this request if regular posters of Political topics used the(Politics) section it would become more used.
