Tower Of London Poppies

I've just received the first of my poppies! Much heavier than I expected with a very solid stem. You have to assemble it yourself - full instructions enclosed in the box. Apparently they are susceptible to frost so not to be left in the garden in very cold weather.

Roo, you're lucky too. I ordered mine ages ago and can't wait to see them all set up. Wish I could've afforded to buy loads of them. Two will have to suffice.

My order no. Was 138234 so that may give some idea of when yours may arrive, Jan. as root power says they are really well packed so hopefully none will arrive broken. Just going to get him indoors to put it together.

Margo, I've obviously got quite a while to wait. My numbers are 654??? and 712??? so I've got quite while yet. Patience...

Bedknobs - the stem on mine is about a foot long and is rusty, not sure yet whether it will clean up. It's a solid rod not pliant at all, you'd have a job to cut it down, which was what I was going to do and then put it into a bud vase. The poppy is about 3 inches deep.

Mine's on the 135000 range but my date is Jan Feb according to the website, seems a bit odd if yours has arrived. Looking forward to it though, my framing shop has been put on standby!

An ABer has the number 1 poppy but he still hasn't received it yet so I don't know in what order they are being sent out.

Zeno - we had an e mail a few days ago saying it had been picked but may not arrive until after Christmas and then one this morning saying it was one its was eta Mon/Tues and about an hour later it arrived!

My emails just say they've been picked and are being cleaned and then will be posted out, hopefully sometime before the next millennium.

If they are sending them out by order number and they are up to 134000 in 10 days then, as the Americans say, you do the math! Just over 2 months to do the lot give or take (maths not being my strong point!)

Margo, how tall is it? I've seen a 50cm single stem vase I was thinking I could put mine in.

Meglet -the stem is about 45cm. and is a solid rod. We have followed the instructions but the poppy doesn't seem to fit very well. The poppy head is really heavy so unless the vase is heavy it could topple over! Managed to get the rust of with a Brillo pad (other makes are available). They are probably best suited to put in the garden which I suppose is what they were designed for. Somebody said they were going to get theirs framed but the poppy is a good 3inches deep so not sure how that would look.

Yes, I wondered if it might be too heavy. Although I could fill the vase with decorative sand maybe. I don't want to put mine in the garden for all the local cats to pee on!

Meglet - good idea about the sand, why didn't I think of that! That would then mean you could 'centre' the poppy in the vase. Two brains are better than one.
