milvus - do you know any details of the pair at Rutland ie how long they've been there, how old the pair is,...I've read some of the blog but any other info would be great, thanks

5R (male) was fledged at Rutland in 2004 (from one of the Rutland land based nests I think). The female he is with now isn't ringed so I don't know anything about her yet. I was up there on 7th April and the osprey team didn't have any info about her then.
He mated with an unringed female last year on the same Manton bay nest so she may be the same bird. They will probably check photos to confirm. The female should be producing a second egg any time now and her third during this week.

The second egg was laid at Loch of the Lowes yesterday - that makes 60 in all for Lady! Lovely to know that they are thriving across the country - we wait and see if Lady can hatch her 50th chick.

She's trailing her Scots cousin by a little but the Rutland Water females has now produced her second egg

Great news. A friend and I spent a couple of hours watching the pair on Saturday.We even got to look through the "watchers'" telescopes which was wonderful.Also amazing the numbers of willow warblers at Rutland Water. We spent ages locating and listening to them . A very tame yellowhammer was under the birdfeeder at Lyndon, which surprised us.

Sorry. Yellowhammer was at Egleton, I think. Rat families in evidence under birdfeeders at both reserves!

Third egg produced at the Manton Bay nest at Rutland on 22/4. First egg should hatch around 21st May
