Horrific story here, and I can't help but think that's the end of them as a business because of it. Vile man.

no, I pay my bills (I don't think this is strange behaviour!)

Yes, I know his reaction was disproportionate. But she must share the blame. She chose not to pay her bill when asked. She was responsible for the horse but wouldn't pay for it. That's not my idea of taking responsibility.
Well I tried to discuss with Mrs sqad over coffee, as she has been involved in horses all her life.

She just shouted her disgust, over and over again...same thing but with increasing decibels each time.........reminding me of certain AB treads.

I am not privy to the contract between the stables and the woman involved.
I find it difficult to understand the attitude of the stables, if they intended to stay in business.

I have a certain amount of sympathy with the post of jno.........the Livery Stable have to pay their way in life and need the money.
The stables could not contact the woman...why?

However, I do agree that if the above is correct, then the action of the Livry Stables was unacceptable.

Wow I think that is crazy harsh and fairly unrealistic to be honest but no it's not unusual to pay your bills- assuming you can- if she had a sudden financial mishap she may not have been able to that week, it's a week we are talking about not months on end- I take it you've never been in that situation? I haven't either to be honest but it doesn't take much to imagine some people might?
They could have just turned the horse out into a field or even tied the horse up somewhere, anywhere. but to kill the horse is just sick and spiteful!!
Great. I wrote, I post, I get a screen saying problem loading, and it is all slung away.

Well I'm not writing it all out again. Sympathy for horse. None for either human party.
I agree with jno. I always make sure my bills are paid IN ADVANCE to make sure that I am never in debt. I agree that the *** who shot the horse should suffer the consequences BUT the lady who owed the debt must accept some responsibility, after all if she had paid her debt the poor animal would still be alive.
nothing in the story to say that's what happened, though, kvalidir (and you can bet there would be if it was the case, the Mail wouldn't miss a trick like that). She just decided whe was going to pay the bill when she wanted, not when she was asked to.

I have no problems if the livery stables go out of business. But I'd also be asking myself: would I rent a horse to this woman? In my opinion, no way.

It was only on grass keep RATTER anyway- they literally killed it because it was still standing in a field 7 days after they last recieved money for it to be sanding in a field. Hope they get everything they deserve- and still very sorry for its loaner:(
yes, when I say I have no sympathy for the humans involved, I'm not including the actual owner
I have a friend with a DIY livery yard. Plenty of slow payers. He's even keeping a couple of mares out of his own pocket. That's just business. We all roll with it.

This case is simply about thoughtless cruelty when someone perceives a grievance. As with all country areas, there'll be an ongoing back-story to this.

All the humans involved probably needed a slap ......... not the horse.
I really don't understand people that can just kill animals at the drop of a hat.

Only because it was stood in their field!! I would not trust that stable, even if I could pay their bills, I just hope the rest of the horses at livery there are removed promptly!
Absolutely despicable behaviour. Beggars belief. The poor horse. :o(
It's clear that the stable owner's action was one of peevish revenge rather than anything else - it certainly isn't going to get his debt paid any quicker.

Any business suffers from late payments or bad debts, but this is obviously not a suitable response, legally or morally.

This man has shown himself to be spiteful and amoral - not the sort of image you want for a bsuiness caring for animals.
I feel physically sick when I look at that smarmy basket livery owners face. The horse was in a field, he was not giving it any food, not paying anyone's wages to groom or exercise it, so a £30 bill hanging over him is nothing out of his pocket. If he killed one of my horses I'm afraid I would take my 20 bore and wing him, regardless of consequences. I hope all the other people who have horses there leave (I would) and he goes bankrupt. I have been on livery yards where owners have owed hundreds of pounds, if the owners don't pay the horses are sent to the auction for sale, that is the legal procedure, not killing a perfectly healthy young animal.
He has been released without charge but a younger man is on bail whilst investigations are carried out.
I know exactly how they will wriggle out of this. He will say they were trying to return the animal to its owner and could not get it in the horsebox. It started thrashing about and became a danger to the public so they felt they had to destroy it, he has hinted at 'danger to the public' on the ITV last night. He will probably get away with prosecution, I hope the owners boyfriend gives him what he deserves.
He has already been released without charge.

I think that's a pretty fair assessment of what will happen - which will not please any of the animal lovers on here at all!
Absolutely horrendous!!!! The owner of the yard obviously cares nothing about horses or probably any other animal. There are so many other ways of sorting out this trivial problem over £30, for heaven's sake.

He should be banned from having anything to do with Any animal. My heart goes out to the owner of the horse.
Just read that this horse had raced four times, this means it will have been used to being transported and handled, it was not an untrained wild animal. I hope his customers vote with their feet.
