I don't understand this at all. The Countryside Alliance has been telling us for years that foxes need to be hunting with dogs, as they are a nuisance. I agree that foxes can be a nuisance, although not the bit about hunting with dogs.

But this evidence in the BBC link clearly shows that somebody is rearing fox cubs, for the express reason that they can be hunted.

And its just sheer coincidence that they are being kept 200m away from the hunt kennels ?

So, if they are not being deliberately reared so that they can be hunted, why are they being reared at all ?

Maggie ....it was indeed. I am waiting for the AB representatives of the Countryside Alliance and fox hunting to try to explain this, which will be interesting.

Yes Flippant comment, there is no reason to breed an animal that porportedly needs to be controlled, I therefore conclude they are indeed for sport and thus we expose what is common knowledge that fox hunting is not solely to control foxes.

At this point I want to point out that I am not against fox hunting the above is merely pragmatism.

I realise that you are, like me, common as muck TTT ! I was brought up for at least part of my life on a Council Estate as well. So I was only teasing.

But it would appear that somebody was rearing these cubs, so that they could be released and then hunted, which is hypocritical to say the least.

I very much doubt that anyone is rearing the cubs. You can`t breed foxes in the way that you can breed dogs. Maybe someone has taken some cubs from their mothers.

237....yes, you are probably correct, but the difference is of no matter. Its obvious that they are being used for future hunts, and the pro-hunting lobby is banged to rights on this one. Hoisted by their own petard indeed ! A own-goal if ever I saw one.

mikey I live in a country house with land and horses and am so opposed to Fox hunting I've been arrested on more than one occasion. when protesting. Most people who hunt these days are crusty old farts and 'Wannabee's who have loads of money but are trying to buy 'class'. Most country folk hate the hunt -even the 'pretend' Hunt as it destroys land,breaks fences and kills peoples pets. These Huntsmen are horrible cruel and nasty individuals who actually like killing for sport and the way they treat the Hounds and Hunt horses reflects their disregard for any animal.

I wondered about the 'wisdom' of taking such young cubs away from the vixen and whether they would survive

also my notes are far from complete on when they wean and start eating carrion

I mean cute as cubs but I am not keen on the real thing

Has anyone noticed that these activities that the hunting lobby is so keen on, all involve killing things ? They would bring back bear baiting, hare coursing and otter hunting if they could. This case shows that they are dishonest, as well as cruel.

It isn't a wildlife sanctuary or a zoo.

It saddens me that anyone can not be against Fox Hunting with Dogs. To chase an animal to the point of exhaustion, dig it out if it goes to earth and set Hounds on it to tear it to shreds is one of the most abhorrent things humans have invented as a 'sport'
