First Time Ever

A little pussycat has been coming to my back yard and warming himself with my hot boiler pipe. I know the little cat belongs to my next but next door neighbour.

I have never touched or looked at a cat in my life but last night left a tin of tuna fish which it ate. Tonight I broke up a chicken breast which it ate. I looked at it tonight and he is still there.

This little cat is about 2 years old but always looked like a kitten. There are loads of children in this family and now I am thinking is it not being fed.

Mr Maxie has been barking but nothing like he use to in the back yard.

Now - am i doing a bad thing - feeding him/her and encouraging him/her to come back for me or leave the little thing.

yes he does look very thin - and is this ok - the family left him wandering the streets for two weeks whilst they were on holiday but another neighbour came up once a day and left a tin of food on the driveway. the cat did have access to the house via an open window

Do you know this neighbour well enough to ask? Cats are very manipulative and often greedy, very well fed and loved cats round me still come in and pinch my cats' food at every opportunity. Have to say I'd be miffed if a neighbour was feeding my two - but then they are both obviously not lacking care.

jenny if it looks thin then I would feed it, but best get some cat crunchies or tinned cat food. My cat would take food from anyone and she was fat and it did make me annoyed people were feeding her, but a thin looking cat- well I would feed it no problem.

I would ask. My cat is skinny as anything. But despite the fact he looks really thin he has a clean bill of health from the vets every year. He's just very fit and muscular.

don't say that tonyAv - I am frightened of a cat and can't believe how much I have "helped" this little kitten. Tonight I proffered my hand and nearly shi^ myself when it proffered its paw. LOL

I can never understand why the cat does come near to me as this Maxie fella barks at the droppin of a hat. Do think cat is getting a wee heat - so that'll do me LOl

Once you start feeding them jj, that's it! They won't go away. I'm sure I'd do the same as you though, especially if it looked thin.

I think you need to be very sure if a cat is neglected before you start feeding it. It's not fair to lure a cat (unintentionally) away from it's owners. They are very fickle animals and will go to the best resaurant.

Feed it, love it, care for it. You'll have a friend for life - or, at leat, until the food runs out ;-)

Yes but that's the problem. If JJ feeds it, it may vote with its feet. Heck I'm sure any cat would prefer tuna and chicken to whiskas.

JJ can't really offer it a home so I am not sure encouraging it is a good idea.

Cats are intelligent opportunists, you are feeding him good food so he will keep visiting.

This visitor may be a good way of getting used to a cat on his territory.

Cats are a total pain to live with, but they are funny and sweet too.

Weecalf that's terrible advice. If there is a suspicion of neglect she should report it.

Mine looks like a skinny ragamuffin most of the time but he's is the most pampered puss going.

Canary - that's one pussycat that he will not be able to bully or take advantage of. A pussycat would have no hesitation in attacking the orange one. It has superior intellect and bigger 'bits'.
