3-Storey Rabbit Cage
4 Answers
Hi. I have just bought a 3 storey indoor rabbit cage. It basically loks like 3 cages stacked up with interconnecting ramps to each level...now I have a strange question. Do I need to put down bedding on each floor, or just the bottom level? It's a heck of a lot of wood shavings if it's all 3!

scoobysoo! Its many years since i kept rabbits - never had indooor cages - but it sounds wonderful - three storey's!
I would go for putting down a bit of bedding on each floor - else it would be like having rooms without furniture - if you see what i mean (i do waffle on!!). Just thinking as well that wood shavings or similar would soak up any spills from bunny and would be far easier to clean out in the long run. Im not sure if its a wooden cage or other but you may find that the rabbit will eventually choose 1 or 2 levels as its preference.
Hope bun enjoys the housing. :o)xx

Since you have an indoor cage & will need some sort of absorbent material on each level have you considered using something less messy - wood shavings go everywhere inside or out!
I have used a pelleted newspaper cat litter called
'Yesterday's news'. It is extremely absorbent, has no smell & does not track like shavings. You will only need a small amount so it will be very economical & bunny won't be tempted to eat it. It swells up a lot once wet & is very easy to seperate soiled matter & remove from the remaining clean pellets. Is your rabbit an 'indoor rabbit'? Do you give bunny the run of the house & is bunny house trained? If housetrained you may be able to train him/her to use a particular part of the cage & that would save on changing all the extra bedding or be able to use ordinary sheet newspaper on some of the levels.
Hope this helps - x.
