Swallows .:o(
41 Answers
For fellow nature lovers.
Came back after shopping just now to find my swallows nest empty. One dead baby with an injury lying on the ground and one live baby (not looking very healthy) which I put back in the nest. The parents are quite distressed. Methinks our Jay has been busy.
Just had to tell somebody. I'm so sad.

You are so obviously a child that I can't get annoyed with you - just can't be bothered. Those of us on here have been around long enough to just laugh at little kids like you trying to be clever, whatever you post won't shock us. We are not rising to the bait (if you understand that expression!). Just run along.

Still no action taken. So much for the return of the Editor!
Baby swallows are now all dead. Attacked by something. We believe it is possible the woodpecker as we have seen woodpeckers taking baby birds before and this particular woodpecker has been around this area so much lately.
I wasn't going to post on AB anymore until it has been 'cleaned up', but have decided that it's better to just ignore it and carry on. However, I am very disallusioned now about the site. I shall carry on in this section because the majority of people are genuine.

Just logged on and saw your new post Lottie.
Oh, that's such a shame after our hopes were up.
There's no point having a report facility if nothing is done.
It is pretty sad if genuine people can't post questions and responses without saddos spoiling it. Maybe it is best just to carry on as though they had never posted. I can understand your disillusionment (is there such a word?).
I amongst others love to hear your news.

So sorry to read about the baby swallows Lottie. :o[
It's an awful, sad shame .... little lives gone ....
I am on tenterhooks at the moment (again!), my lovely little bluetits are in danger of becoming lunch for a neighbour's cat. It's nerve wracking, they are so close to a woodpecker too - but he seems oblivious to them, which is great - but I caught the cat jumping up against the ivy, where the tits' box is! (Is there any wonder I'm going grey???)
This cat is determined - I've chased him out of my garden loads of times, but he keeps coming back.
I think the tits are on their second round of chicks - we see their fledglings "vibrating" on our garden seat, begging for food. It's so lovely to watch them.
Lottie, I hope you don't let the morons who post stupid things put you off this site - it's hard to do, I know - but ignoring the ********* is the best option. They'll go away if they don't get the reaction they're looking for.
Keep your chin up, keep posting, and keep doing a fantastic job looking after our wonderful wildlife.
Tara for now lass.
