Now that JK Rowling has officially named her next book who do you think is the half-blood prince?? I initally thought it could possibly be something to do with Neville Longbottom, but have since remembered that both his parents were wizards therefore he is full blood. Anyone any suggestions as to who it could possibly be??

I agree with potterfan.Perhaps Rowling doesnt treat Tom Riddle and Voldemort as the same person. J.K.Rowling also mentioned on her site that she had thought of the new title as the title for the second book "chamber of secrets".But she didnt do so because it might give up some crucial information which she felt would only be suitable for later books.Tom Riddle was the only important person in the second book who would fill the "half blood prince" title.Who else? Also remember that Dumbledore still calls Voldemort as "Tom" in their encounter. Why would he do that if it had no significane?Perhaps it is an attempt to awaken the "Tom" within Voldemort? Anyway all this is purely my conjecture.Who really knows what is cooking in J.K.Rowling's amazing mind? Only time will tell.
I think that it will some that we don't expect. All I know is that it's Harry or Voldemort. Hagrid is possible but I don't think that Rowling would use him.
I also think it is anew caracter like Pickle. It is like he said there is only one point. Every new caracter who has been importante has been mentioned earlier. Like Sirius he has been mentioned in book 1 alredy so I think that wehave read of him but didnt take care on that. SO I realy think it could be Mark Evans from book 5 because he will probably come in Hogwarts, remember he is 10 years old in book 5 so in book 6 he is 11
I think this half blood prince buziness may have something to do with Snape, there's a lot we don't know about him...remember in book 5 when Harry was learning occlumency or watever with him and he broke into Snape's memories instead(like seeing him cry in his childhood)? all i'm saying is jkr will probly say alot more about his past in book 6 or 7 and he might have something to do with the HBP. Just guessing!!
You people have some pretty strange answers like,Harry Potter, Voldemort, Draco Malfoy, and Mark Evans! First of all, JKR has already said that it is not Voldemort or Harry! Second of all Draco Malfoy is a pure blood! And third of all have any of you even been to www.JKRowling.com beacause there she says that Mark Evans has nothing to do with the next two books, and that he is not even remotely related to Harry! I think the half blood prince is either Hagrid or mabey even Godric Gryfindor.
Howdy Yaw! I think's it's also a new character...that's all Bye And also this book has a crazy title, but looks good, I wold like to read, and I caint wait till it comes out. Sorry about that yaw, I am from the south, talkin about that caint thing or maybe I should just shut up!!!
I am intrigued about both theories of a new character and Mark Evans. I wonder if maybe Snape is the HBP. We know little to nothing about his past (and why Dumbledore trust him so much) It is true that he calls Lily a Mudblood in OTP, However Voldemort also keeps his muggle parent a secret. Also why does Dumbledore continue to allow Snape to torment Harry? Especially since Dumbledore has such an obvious and deep affection for Harry.
Have you read the 5th book at all? Hagrid is half giant and therefore a half-blood. Think about it. If Hagrid is a prince then he can take control of the giants and stop them working for Voldemort.
Have any of you tought of Argus Filch? I mean,we all know he is a Squib, but we know nothing of his origins.Who is he? Who is Miss Norris?I don`t know why but I think he is the Halfblood prince
do you think "half blood" might be symbolic of something, and not its literal meaning that most people are thinking? Like maybe part evil and part good or something?
I think that the Half Blood prince might be Dean Thomas because on Jk's web site it has information about his dad being a wizard and his mum being a muggle. It also says that he was supposed to play a bigger part in the COS.
I think it might be Dean because he just seems like the right kind of guy for the part or it could be this other guy whose mom was a muggle and dad was a wizard but I cant remember his name right now.
The half blood prince is not Mark Evans or colin creevy. i don't think it could be hagrid or snape but maybe they are related to it somehow. i like the idea that its dean because you can really see where it comes from if you go to rowlings website. i still going to stick with my first and second choices tom riddle and the heir of godric gryffindor. Peace
um.. well JK states its neither Harry nor Voldy... and she was going to call the 2nd book HBP but instead called it CoS. and the half blood prince was introduced in the 2nd book.. so this could either be Colin Creevy OR Gilderoy Lockhart... but when I think of CoS the main character that comes to mind is Lockhart and I know JK wouldnt make it really obvious.. so it might be Colin... but im not so certain.. ill go read it now and if i find anything i will tell ya
or... i might change my answer. it can also be Tom Riddle because the CoS is mostly about Tom Riddle and JK Rowling wanted to call it that
Hold on.. how bout Dobby.. nah it wouldnt be him because he's not a wizard... oh well just a thought.
I think that people need to read JK Rowling's website a little more clearly. I am not trying to be mean or anything its just that she stated that the history on Dean Thomas isnt going to be used in future books. It was written out and she said "now I feel that his history will never make it to the books." therefore I am ruling out dean thomas as the HBP. Secondly, I think we are taking the fact about Cos and HBP linked together too literally. After re-reading JKR's website, I think the HBP will be a completely new character. This is because she says "Certain crucial pieces of information in book six were originally planned for CoS but very early on, I realized the proper home was in book six. I have said before now that "Chamber" holds some very important clues to the ultimate end of the series." From that statement it seems like the characters involved in HBP were written out out CoS and will be included in the upcoming book. This is just speculation. I hope it is a new character because I dont really see JKR being able to bring an old character back into the stories if they hadnt played a somewhat important role in the previous books. They would need to be involved as much as Neville to be included importantly in the 6th book....just my 2 cents..
The Mark Evens idea is ABSOLUTLY wrong!!!!!!! I went to www.jkrowlings.com and she said that evans is a common name and that no one could wish more than she that she had not named him that. (not a direct quote)
personally i think the best contenders are either tom morvaldo riddle or justin flench-flechy or whatever the last bit really is
i agree with whitearrow i bet it is (again) tom morvaldo riddle
