I was doing the breast sroke last night and the part of my body I feel gets the most work out is my shoulders and back.

So its right that that part of my body should be aching the most? But I don't feel much of a workout on my legs or stomach. I don't really want a more toned back, its very toned as it is and I don't want to look like a man! lol
ummmm is right.

If you are horizontal, the muscle group that pulls your arms back through the water is your upper back ...

... and the group that pulls them forwards again is your shoulders.

Suppose will just have to do lots of cardio and a bit of resistance training to tone me legs, bum and tum

Hack squats

Single leg press

Toes pointed in stiff leg deadlift

Reverse hyperextensions

Butt blaster

Stair climber

Pli� squats

Dumbell bench step ups

Cable kickbacks

Sit down/stand up with barbell on shoulders

the only ones that mean anything to me are squats and stair climber. Argh I hate that machine at the gym!
If you just want to work out your legs then use a float.

yeah I was thinking that ummm, might look a bit silly but who cares!

I only go occasionally anyway but I do need to start toning up so will have to find an exercise to do regularly
I tried starting my fitness thing last night. I did half an hour of skipping and lay on the floor dying afterwards, hardly able to breathe lol! And then had an attempt at sit ups (which was appaling)!! Tonight is cycling night...

awww lol CAJ1 - how was you're holiday in Dorset the other week btw?

I'm not good at sit ups anymore but want to start doing them. I have had a couple of nights on the trampoline for 30 mins and that is quite tiring! If you skip whilst on the trampoline though, it makes the time go faster and feels easier, oh and I mix it up by doing star jumps, and doing seat drops and bringing knees up to chest, doing spotty dog, touching toes behind my back. Yeah I must look funny to the neighbours!

Hack squats

Squats, on a leg press machine. Start with your feet out in front, instaed of underneath your hips.

Single leg press

As above, but using one leg emphasises the outside of your butt muscle.

Toes pointed in stiff leg deadlift

Stand up straight, hold a barbell hanging against your thighs, point your toes in, then bend and lower the bar to the floor, and pull up. Try it without a bar ... you can feel your butt working.

Reverse hyperextensions

Lie on a bench on your frony, legs sticking out off the end. Lower your feet to the floor, and use your bum to pull them back up. Keep your legs straight.

Butt blaster

A machine. Either your gym has one, or it doesn't.

Stair climber

You know this one.

Pli� squats

Like the ballet move. Stand, feet together, toes out at 90 degrees. Hold a dumbell in each hand. Bend the knees ... and straighten.

Dumbell bench step ups

Dumbell in each hand. Bench in front of you. Keep upright, and step up on the the bench. Alternate left, then right, legs.

Cable kickbacks
Get one of those velcro ankle straps with a loop. Connect the loop to the low cable on a cable machine. Stand facing the machine. Push your ankle backwards.

Sit down/stand up with barbell on shoulders
Hold a barbell across your shoulders. Have a bench behind you. Sit back down on to the bench. The stand up, keeping the barbell across your shoulders.

Believe me ... by the end of the session, you'll feel like your butt is on fire ... but it will give you a FANTASTIC arse.

Had a fab time thanks, the weather was quite nice too. I had a seagull steal my ice cream though! x

I wish I had a trampoline, it would be so much more fun exercising then! Although I would probably end up in a heap on the floor next to it lol!

Jane you're butt must be the most toned in the world!
Try this routine, karma ... it works.

I also run a lot, but just with this routine, you'll soon be very happy with your bum.

And ... you'll look fab in jeans !!!

Ahhh thats good CAJ1 x Yeah bloody seagulls, one of em stole some chicken I was eating once! They scare me!

Thanks Jayne! I've been told my bum is my best asset but theres always room for improvement!

Do you have a stomach routine as that could definitely do with a tone! Thats my worst area!
LOL CAJ ...

I'm quite proud of it.

I do a split cycle at the gym, so my butt routine comes round every 3 sessions ... or about once every 4/5 days. It takes that long to recover from the previous workout.
