Bank Holiday wages

I think I may be asked to work this bank holiday but last time I worked a bank holiday I was paid my normal hourly rate - I keep getting told by people its compulsory to be paid double time or time and a half for working a Bank Holiday - I do not want to bring this up with my boss incase its wrong so can someone please tell me if it is law or just a general guideline that you are paid more on a Bank Holiday???

Depends on your contract - I wouldn't think that there's a rule that covers everyone, it's just common practice for lots of people to get extra.

There is certainly no law stating your employer has to pay you more for working BHs.  Its entirely down to your company's policy.  As stevie21 says, just check what your contract says.

Employees have no legal right to holidays, with or without pay, nor even to a day off work on a bank holiday. Holiday entitlement usually forms partof the EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT.
