I seem to now have a food intolerance to quite a variety of foods I've eaten my whole life - does anybody know why this should be?  I have to say it's all stemmed since the birth of my first and only son five years ago. Any ideas??  Cheers!!

I used to know this guy who was in his 50's and he started getting intolerance to some nuts- then it spread to all nuts, then more food types. Apparently its a proper thing- once your immune system becomes intolerant to one food type it spreads to other stuff because your faulty immune system becomes sort of hyper-active.
you say it started since the birth of your son, then it may be an imbalance within your hormones .Just a guess mind.
On this topic, two people have told me that they suddenly became violently ill after eating scampi and drinking wine.  That combination together.  It happened suddenly as before that they could eat that combination.  I am now deathly afraid of combining the two when I have done so my whole life.  Has this ever happened to anyone else?????

Interesting information - thank you - good point about combining foods too - wonder if certain combinations can cause intolerances too??
I think it's funny what giving birth does to you. After giving birth to my youngest son 11 years ago I suddenly became allergic to my watch, and am now allergic to all 'cheap' metals, though can wear stainless steel and gold.

having feeling very under the weather, fatigued and sensitive to certain foods, I've done quite alot of research into intolerances and i've found (in the opinion of alot of people) that alot of intolerances are caused by candida overgrowth.

yeast basically. Its in all of us, but can become unbalanced for many reason, one being a hormonal change. too much yeast upsets your immune system, so brings you down, when you're at your worst.

perhaps its worth checking into.

Hi I am man and developed an intolerance to drinking lager and any wheat/wholemeal product such as brown bread or weetabix.  This also seemed very strange as I was able, up until last year, to consume these things regularly without any ill effect.  After drinking lager I noticed a swelling of my abodomen and tight feeling around my waist the next day.  I wont go into the details, but any wheat or wholemeal product passes straight through me.  Several years back I experienced a similar problem with pasta but now can eat without any bad consequences. Strange.
intolerance is a really weird thing.  My wife was in hopsital with our third child a few years back and had to go on a course of antibiotics.  A few hours later she called the midwife over and said "I don't want to alarm you, but I am turning scarlet and I seem to be getting a really hacking and irritating cough, I felt fine yesturday."  The midwife called the doctor, the doctor came, shook his head and said "Mrs T, why didn't you tell us you are allergic to penicillin?"  she turned around and said "I'm not actually, I've had it millions of times."  he pointed out "You are now, make sure you never have it again."  Weird as weird.  Just like that, no warning or anything.  Could be pregnancy, but we will never know if she has stopped being allergic to it either as the doctors can never prescribe it again.  She has since had two more children we have five in total and that middle pregnancy was the only one in which she spontaneiously started an allergy....curiouser and curiouser.  It is as one other person pointed out a problem with the immune system.
