Deadlifting is probably the most natural lift there is: stand in front of the bar, bend over in the "safe" style i.e back straight and knees bent (ever seen Gareth's demo in the Office?) ans just lift! If youre grip#'s a problem, use an "alternate" grip i.e palm over the bar on your strongest hand, palm under the bar on the other; or use lifting straps (not if you have aspirations to be a competitive powerlifter!). Push off with your legs till the bar reaches waist height then complete with the upper back.
