Dear lilly1,
Regarding epilepsy, the comon "petit mal" form is "easily" controlled by drugs, and I doubt if the DVLA would be over-concerned about your driving.
"Grand mal" is a different matter but it doesn't sound as though you are in that bracket and there may well be good treatments - I dunno.
As regards your Type 2 diabetes I don't see any problems as you are not on intravenous insulin and do not have problems reading a car number-plate from the standard distance. Actually, one of our neighbours, we were told, is a Type 1 diabetic and is dependent on insulin but has just qualified as a nurse and drives to work daily. All very confusing and I sympathise with you.
You have rightly been honest with the DVLA and I do not understand the delay. In fact your honesty should help you back into the driving-seat because if you thought that you were a danger to yourself or others then, like most of us, I am sure you would make the decision to quit driving yourself.
Oh: why a nurse's views rather than your GP? and are you sure your three year "self-certification" is targeted at your particular health problems". Dare I say it (O.K. I will) If you are 70 yrs or over, the process applies to all of us.
Luv,
SIQ.
