Hi everyone! Have any of you ever used Utterlybuttery when baking cakes? It says "suitable for baking", but I have my doubts. Your experiences and advice please ... Many thanks.

No cooks on here tonight?
I use Stork or butter normally. But I seem to remember Mary Berry saying you can use spreads instead of butter for baking but ideally it needs to be 69% fat to create the proper texture. I am getting this info from my pretty rubbish memory so don't blame me if it goes wrong lol.

Thanks rattyrat! I normally use butter, but thought I'd try this out and it seems to be fine. It made the cake batter a bit runnier than I am used to, but when it was baked, it looked and tasted perfectly good. Whew! :o)
Nope, butter only
If it says suitable for baking carakeel, then it is - they are not allowed to tell lies about it, well, not blatant lies anyway. Otherwise you might sue and they wouldn't like that.
good to know Carakeel, I bake a lot, and always use butter or stork soft margarine, I've never trusted any of the spreads, most of them aren't suitable, as the fat content is too low!........
It doesn't say Baking what though! or if quantities need to be adjusted.

Carakeel always uses butter in her cakes, I think this was more of an experiment.

The cakes are delicious as always :-)
I prefer to use butter too RATTER, they always really rich, worth the extra cost!......
I went to a cookery demonstration a year or two back where the demonstrator used Utterly Butterly. Her cake certainly turned out well, so I guess it would be fine for you too.
Must say I tend to stick to Stork, spreadable type for cakes and hard sort for pastry.
I tend to use whatever is on special offer. Have used UB loads of times and its fine. OK for pastry too.

I think I would still normally use butter. I always try to use the best ingredients I can get when cooking or baking. At the same time though it is nice to experiment occasionally. I was making what our family calls "buns" today. Mum had some and loved them, so I'm happy, lol!
This has brought a memory back, Carakeel - enjoy x
