Thanks we'll have a go tonight- it's driving us mad to use Xbox live at the moment we have to put the router half way up the stairs and connect direct to it and if we try and do it with our Orange Livebox the Xbox just takes it over and no-one else can get on line. I think 55 is a lot of money to buy the wireless adaptor if we can just use a cable.
You can connect an xbox 360 to a computer via
a) a crossover cable through the network card
b) plugit into a router and then it will all work
c) if you do not have a network card on the laptop then you need to fit either a usb or a pcmcia or a very similar cardbus network card.
once you have installed to network equipment then you need to set it up
this is easy with the router and if you have broardband then the equipment will tel you to download certain files
the 360 is the only media centre extender in the uk currently on sale and is designed to go on a network and playback all your mp3's in your my music folder and display all your photos and pictures in your my pictures folder.
trust me it is easier done than explained.
the router i use is a netgear dg834 the dg834g is the wireless version.
if you have media centre then the 360 will also playback all your recorded tv and avi files as well.
the 360 also has msn on it.
Microsoft have the idea of the connected home and want a large pc with mediacentre or vista home premium as the "server" and then the kids have a 360 each and playback the music from the server over the network .
DO YOU REALY THINK BILL GATES HAS LICENCED THIS TECNOLOGY TO SONY FOR THE PS3 I dont think so either
My brother has an ethernet cable attached from the xbox to the wireless router.
be sure to put the cable into the highest number port.
He put it into port number one and when I turned my laptop on, the wireless took over and kicked him off. so I plugged it into port 4 and it works fine.
ethernet cables are mighty cheap from local electrical stores.
