I've seen statues depicting every aspect and mood of man, from laughter and sadness, to meditation and wisdom. Buddha is often depicted in three main ways: asleep, half-awake, and fully awake. These represent man's progression to the ultimate goal - Nirvana - from total unawareness, to learning, to enlightenment or Nirvana.
I'm not certain but the fat belly Buddhas and laughing Buddhaswe see are'nt actually an image of the Buddha but rather a certain Buddhist monk called Ho Tai, I have 2 incarnations of the Buddha one of them is known as Kwan Yin, women who want children make offerings to it, I think there are 10 overall.
