Growing spuds in containers

I have grown 1st early potatoes in pots for the last 2 years and have already got my seed spuds from a local garden centre. It occured to me today that perhaps one does not need to "chit " the seed , as I did when I grew them in my veg garden and in the pots in 08 and 09 Can anyone advise me as to whether I still need to put them on a windowsill to chit, or just wait until the warmer weather arrives and pot them up.The variety I am trying this year is Lady Christal.

not an answer to your question, but you've inspired me. I've always wondered if growing potatoes in containers is possible. might try it!

i've done the spuds in a container thing where you put the spuds in a bit of compost in the bottom of the bin then just keep covering the shoots up. I didn't sprout them on the windowsill first but did wait until all risk of frost was past before starting them.

when mine are ready the supermarkets sell so cheaply - it's an uneconomical crop.

Yes,Tambourine, you are probably right, but home-grown always seem to taste better!
