Depends on your situation. Maybe blood pressure tablets, maybe change of diet, maybe change impact of life, maybe right exercise like swimming. Your gp should know for you
Well, there are natural ways like eating as little salt as you can or drinking lots of beetroot juice and eating lots of blueberries (ie dietary changes)...or, letting your GP prescribe a pill (or two) every day.
Cut salt intake for a start. It's easy not to put salt into veg. when you boil them (you get used to it in a week or so).
You can't avoid stress situations, but you can minimise them and go for walks. Hope this helps.
Also - I have found using sea salt - you only need 2 or 3 grains to give you the satisfaction and taste. It has for me and I will never go back to ordinary salt.
Sqad has repeatedly said that, while things such as lifestyle changes can certainly help a bit, for most people there's no real alternative to medication (such as taking amlodipine tablets, which countless AB members, including myself, seem to be on).
Be wary of BP tablets. They can make your hair fall out in handfuls.......believe me.
As Ginge says....beetroot juice or tablets...hawthorn tablets.....and diet.
I take one tablet a day and have done for years with no ill effects at all. My hair has never fallen out. Be careful with salt, but don't forget some salt is essential. I buy rock salt flakes, for good flavour and you need very little.
It can happen, Pat. A relative had her BP tablet changed a few months ago. Her hair began to fall out in handfuls. We had no idea why til we consulted Dr. Google.
She stopped the tablet over a week ago and the daily hair loss is slowly becoming less...a lot less but her once thick hair is now quite thin.
We all react differently Gness. Best just to take doctor's advice and go back if things don't work. I am red listed for statins, and amitriptyline and strong painkillers. All have had a dire affects on me. But funnily enough my hair is much stronger and thicker now than it was in my younger years.
I’ve been taking blood pressure meds for almost 20 years, the only side effect I’ve ever had was the cough which is very common with one of them. It disappeared after a couple of months.
I’d rather lose a bit of hair than die of a stroke.
We do react in different ways, Pat. I just wish we’d know this was a possible side effect earlier and she could have asked for it to be changed sooner. Think she put it down to age at first and that she was falling apart too!
