Yes, I remember it at parties. Do they not still use it? Or, perhaps we don't go to those fun parties anymore.😄

Do we mean Silly String?

Destroyer of many a vinyl seat back in the day.

That stringy stuff squirted from an aerosol ?

No not silly string, it was crazy foam. We kids played with it in the bath.

I feel like I was told that someone had shaving foam that didn't work so sold it off as a kids plaything. However I suspect it was just an adult guessing.

I thought there was foam as well.

No, not silly string.

It was a very colourful foam you used in the bath.  It floated on the water, could be moulded in to shapes, it bounced.  Then you used it to wash your hair and body. It did dissolve eventually.

Question Author

It came in green, blue, pink if I remember correctly

I remember it came in a squirty can with a cartoon character's head on top.

You had to break a tab out to get your finger in and press the button. This left a rough edge on the plastic which was quite painful to my young fingers.

I remember my can was Huckleberry Hound.

I think my brother had Yogi Bear.

I've never come across that, it sounds good fun.

I don't remember it being coloured, I see it as white in my memory.

Ah, never reached the poor folk round here, we just had a wash.

Something similar is still available:

Oh I haven't lived... never heard of the stuff... anything that floats in water is to be avoided.

You're too young Arky.

Is it for children? Or for boys who never grew up.

The modern equivalent is possibly (the somewhat revolting) Slime Baff:

. . .  or its (equally revolting) sister product, Gelli Baff:

I know.. bless my little cotton socks. Still an education for why the old folk are like they are. 😉
